Also, you can take a ferry from Key West to Ft. Myers, which will save a ton of time. Just don’t plan to stay in Key West unless to want to spend $500 a night for a hotel or camp for $100 a night.

I usually ride 75 miles a day on average on unpaved surfaces. A bit more is no problem if relatively flat or paved. A bit less if lots of climbing. Leaves plenty of time for stops along the way.

Aside from wind direction, a good reason to ride south is the ocean is on your right, so you have a better view. Also, the shoulder is usually better on the ocean side in California.
