It's equally silly that a warranty wouldn't be honored a year after manufacture if the bike had been quickly resold by the original buyer but would be honored 40 years later if the original buyer...

I haven't taken a look at the BB or HS bearings but they'll definitely need to be serviced, I'm guessing it's just a matter of grease gone dry over years of not being used as the bike appeared to be...
