My '93 RB-1, took the old boy out for a spin on the SF Bay Trail this afternoon. Possibly original 600 drivetrain plus barcons, but Tektro brake levers and Dia Compe (or something, I forget and it's in the basement) calipers, no idea about the wheels.

(PS does anyone else find the fancy image uploader never likes about half your photos? So annoying.)

That's not a '93. Probably a '91 or earlier.

My 1986 100
Super heavy frame with super cool quill seatpost! Kestrel 1" threadless fork. Parts mix is all 1050 series 105, ultegra BB and 6500 Crank, DA 11-23 9spd cassette. Rear derailleur has since been upgraded to ultegra 6600. Neuvation m28x aero wheelset from last months deal. 22lbs 6oz on lbs park scale.

Don't mind the wide cheapo seat or the spacer stack for now. I'm on my way down from ~220lbs. At least its flipped...

Well hey, right you are! Seems like a 1990, based on Sheldon's scans and I actually found a set of photos from the previous owner even. (Think I just flipped a bit in my brain, coulda sworn he thought it was a '93...)

Previous owner got it as a frame, so nothing's Original, but he reportedly put on time-appropriate cranks (SunTour GPX) and brake calipers (Dia Compe BRS400). I got it sans pedals and saddle and chain (wtf), and put a 39 down in the front a couple weekends ago. The rear derailler's giving me some grief so it might be coming off next week. And I've got my eye out for a good price on a set of 600 or Ultegra brifters to spiff it up, which would give me a good excuse to find a new cassette too...

(Oh yeah and when I went to ride it the second time it got an explosive flat, so I put Gatorskins on it.)

I have a 70's Bridgestone I just converted to a single speed. It belonged to my dad and sat in his basement for years. It had the aluminum fenders, front and rear racks. I'm hoping it wasn't some desirable model, but it's too late now I suppose to do anything about it.

I think you're okay. The big lugs and the stamped dropouts indicate lower end. It'll ride really nicely though!

T700

Here's my slightly too small T700. I think it's 53cm x 55cm. I'm thinking of parting with it to fund some other projects. IM me if you want it. Fun build, planned fenders and racks but just haven't gotten there yet.

Here's my 1994 RB1 that I picked up a while back that had a mix of parts on it, it's not all original but I like it and it suits me fine. What a great bike !

I borrowed one of those for a year. It was low end, but it suits your purpose just fine. I liked it as a commuter bike, and if I remember, it had a nice, short top tube.

Seems like a solid bike so far. I liked the Sheriff's badge style headset badge, so carefully removed that and put it back on. I wish I could nail down the year, but haven't found a BS serial # database yet.

Here's my Bridgestone Kabuki. Interesting aluminum lugged frame with a quill seat post. Shimano 600 brake levers, brakes, shifters, crank, and RD. The gearing is 56-42 up front and 6speed 13-18 freewheel outback. I am actually selling it right now and I hate to see it go but must make space for others I have bought.

My 1992 RB-2. It was set up like a hybrid, I replaced the chain/cassette and added a new stem, drop bars, and levers. It rides quite nicely.

David Newton 10-04-11 11:49 AM

Some up-grades, no, "side-ways changes" done to my 300 650a single-speed conversion. Orange Velo Left Bank bars & city brake levers.
Still riding cheap saddles.

Looks aside, the higher bar is comfy, and allows me to ride a bike that is otherwise too small.

In the summer of 1991, I rode from LA down into Baja and then on to Boston. This is a shot of us crossing the Mississippi via ferry. Every time we crossed a state line, we put that state's decal on the bikes (like the decals we saw on RVs).

I sold my bike to a buddy who still rides it....

Orrery 10-04-11 01:09 PM

Cool picture. Interesting to see an RB-2 loaded up with gear. I've been thinking of adding fenders to mine in anticipation of the Boston winter. Might be a bit tight for clearance on mine though.

I saw someone riding a 1992 RB-T the other day on Beacon St in Boston. I'd like to get my hands on one.

Rocket-Sauce 10-04-11 01:55 PM

After looking at the catalog scans on Sheldon Brown's site, the RB-2 is (was) a '90. That year, the RB-2 came with a triple cranks, barcons, a long cage rear der, eyelets for full racks and fat 700 x 28c tires. Same Ishiwata steel as the RB-1, but tig welded not lugged.

-I researched and think its the 1993 year that was supposed to have 8sp brifters.
- has the braze ons for fenders
- New Old Stock condition

Sadly I couldn't/wouldn't try riding it for the first time today - sleet storms galore.

First things first: Sincere thanks to Frank at Bell's Bike Shop in Philadelphia, PA. He sold me the frame and even built it up in about 1hrs time. The guy is a PRO.

I decided to put my SRAM and all modern parts on it. Too much work to find the old school specific groupset and (now inferior) brifters - if its going to be different - might as well go full fledged modern.
