Cool 1950s(?) Dujardin camping bike

Spotted on the bay...Nivex front and rear derailleurs which is cool, but the first thing that jumped out at me is the bottle boss braze-ons on the fork legs. Tons of new bike-packing bikes come with this feature as of a couple years ago, but yet again, there's nothing new under the sun! (Not to mention the rear "thru-axle" dropout required by the Nivex system).

Very cool. A real bargain at only 6k...:twitchy:

And that's opening bid, not Buy It Now :foo:

Same seller had two Rene Herse bikes up for equally eyewatering prices ($6k and $7k). They're down now but I'm assuming the auctions expired with no bids.

gugie 02-13-20 02:16 PM

I'd be real tempted to bid on that (a rare French constructeur in my size!) if it were at least half the starting price.

That's Alexander March (active over on Classic Rendezvous). Whether you think his bikes are priced correctly or not, I recommend following his listings. He has some really cool constructeur bikes.

That is a treat to look at. 70 years later and it still seems to be modern in many ways.

ThermionicScott 02-13-20 02:41 PM

Hawt!

northbend 02-13-20 03:26 PM

Oh my.
Glad I am not tempted. If anything I should really start reducing my small collection.
I really do like that bike though.

Love the bottle cage locations! That is cool!

Not just that, but they can be clicked on to see the full-resolution shots.

Man is that a beauty.

This seller does repeatedly find nice bikes.
Will be interesting to watch as he has ridden the market up, now even the top tier stuff is facing softening demand, or a willingness / ability to pay, your choice.
His brother is a quite a character too.

I contracted the seller through the CR list, my admittedly lowball offer was rejected. It was still a lot of money, but he's holding out for more.

If you got as far as a lowball you are interested. Consider the following (if you haven't already). The bike is listed as ready-to-ride. From this seller that is believable. It is a bit smaller than his other bikes but big enough he's likely had it out on road. You could query if ready-to-ride means could possibly be unboxed assembled and test ridden briefly and cautiously or if it means a completed project that needs nothing.

If this were a project bike from an unknown seller it's just a collection of interesting old stuff that might or might not one day become a rideable bike. As a complete ready to ride worth a lot more. Of course if doing all the work on a project bike is considered half the fun then it is just too much money.

TenGrainBread 02-16-20 04:28 PM

If I owned this I would be unlikely to summon the cajones to actually go camping fully loaded with it. I assume so with most people. So to me this is more of a collectors item and "ready to ride" wouldn't matter as much.

Oh, I'm interested. I just don't have $6k sitting around to spend.

Somehow I don’t imagine the seller would take 9 Gran(d) Sport(s) in trade, but you never know!

Even if they were Grand(er) Sport(ier)? ;)

Totally agree, couldn't have said it better myself. It would be fun to use this interesting bike as an inspiration to build something similar that you wouldn't feel you couldn't use as intended...
