Photo of the Day - or Week - or Whatever
I love pictures of the road and even more so when there are people on them, so I thought I'd start a thread for people to post up some pix.
Pardon in advance if this belongs in another thread or group ... I looked around and didn't see a general photo thread in bikeforums. Feel free to move it. This is one of my faves. Taken outside Missoula Montana. Just after snapping this, I made an arm motion like blowing a horn. The engineer obliged. :thumb: http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ps6820df4a.jpg |
So, could that be considered a Training Ride then? ;)
I don't really have any good road pictures. All my pics have been MUP and/or river pics. Suburban roads just don't have the grandeur shown in the above pic, and I've not been out to the Riverroad far enough for good bluff pictures around Elsah, Grafton, and Pierre Marquette park... |

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=302966This is the descent on Hwy 39 from Crystal Lake. One of my favorite descents and I did it just last Saturday.

David: Go ahead and post up the MUP/river pictures! I don't mean this to turn into an art gallery ... just something to look at when I should be working. :D
Rick: I love the view from up there. I took one like that myself last Saturday. That road is funny in that it looks steeper looking down than it does looking up! Sorry I missed you guys for the second half, but we had a series of snafus. BTW, what are you using to present those linkable thumbnails? I imagine the mods would prefer those to full frame pix. |
So far, my favorite photo, which I turned into a wallpaper, is one I shot on the MCT-Goshen Trail during the fall. There aren't any cyclists though.
https://t8fr9g.dm1.livefilestore.com...ors%201280.jpg For all my good, bad, and ugly pics from my expanding range of MUP adventures, stored on my skydrive. My goal for July, is to ride from my house, to the Confluence trail, and ride down it to the old Chain of Rocks Bridge, then cross that bridge when I come to it, and ride down the Riverfront Trail till I reach the Archgrounds of St. Louis. That should be a 25 mile trip one way, and I'm debating whether to come back by bike, or hop on Metrolink, cross the river, and take Madison County Transit to the Wood River station or the Wood River Wal-mart parking-lot. |
Nice! It doesn't have to have a cyclist in it as far as I'm concerned. I can mentally put myself right there. :thumb:

Thanks for asking!
I had a wonderful ride in California last weekend. What a glorious day. It was so beautiful that even my iPhone made good photos. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8366/8...976d5d37_z.jpg Brentwood, CA by ccorlew, on Flickr |

May not look much but that Slightly diagonal path in the centre is an average of 25% Great fun going down but only ever climbed it once on the Tandem. Couple of times on the MTB but it is hard. And it does show how remote you can be just 3 miles from the nearest town. |

We have been lucky the 5 years we have been retired to take many bike/camp trips. Touring most of this country and part of Canada. But, the best adventure has to be that week in April 2010 we spent in the Grand Canyon National Park as it was really quite by accident. In planning the trip I had figured we weren't going to be able to bike during our time there, but as luck would have it the park had finished paving part of the South Rim Greenway. It's quite a ride and parts are quite close to the canyon edge..... long way down.

Whoa. Didn't know there was a path around the Grand Canyon.
I cycled down to the North Rim via Jacobs Lake a long time ago. It was a little spur my friend and I did after Adventure Cycles "Cycle Utah." Boy, I highly recommend touring in Utah. Parts of it are a cycling paradise. |

Nice pix, cccorlew and stapfam.
cccorlew: That's amazing for a phonecam! (see mine below) stapfam: 25% grades scare the bejeezers out of me. There is a road around her called Balcom Canyon that's almost 20% for about a mile. I've ascended it a number of times, but never descended it. The first time the Tour of California ascended that climb, the riders were caught unawares and many of them were tacking up the hill. Switchbacks? Why bother? lol Here's a crappy cellphone pix of that puppy. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...ps140e18d0.jpg |

No Armstrong flames please, it is about the commercials not the rider, just do like I do and pretend you are the rider. |

Use the "insert image" icon in the tool bar of the reply block, click on the icon, it will open and give you a choice of browse your computer's files or a URL, enter your choice and follow the instructions. However, the staff doesn't seem to mind the full size pics, and the members appreciate the larger images. I am too computer illiterate to do the link for full size images using flickr or some such. Hope that helps you out. Bill |
