How long did it take you to go from cat 2->1?

Not many 1's here but the few of you that are around, how long did it take?

(in terms of races or years or whatever)

Racer Ex 03-16-13 10:50 PM

One season. But I was old (48) and needed to hurry.

I'll be up north soon for a month or so. Copperopolis, Topsport SR, Sea Slaughter, and Chico SR. Say hello if you're doing any of those.

mattm 03-16-13 11:01 PM

One season.. whoa.

I'll be happy if I can scrounge a few points by June (which would be a year since my 2's upgrade).

I should be at some of those races.. I'll see if I can follow your attacks in the reg line. =]

It depends on where you count from. I was a 2 in the early 90s. Stopped racing in the mid 90s. Downgraded. Came back about 9 or 10 years ago. Upgraded to 1 last year a couple months into the season.

jsutkeepspining 03-17-13 06:20 AM

i'm hoping one year.....

rkwaki 03-17-13 08:55 AM

Leaving myself out of the equation most of the guys I know took anywhere from 1 to 5 years.

If I were to guess on average it would be about 2, most were crit focused to get there.

If I'm not a 1 in 5 years I quit.. or I'll just start racing Masters.

What about you, did you make it in 4 races or what?

are you saying i couldnt beat u ex? well then i challenge you to a dual!

shovelhd 03-18-13 06:00 AM

It's going to be quicker now since the rule change, but it will never get any easier. I am about 1/3 of the way, but I don't think I'll ever get there.

Gotta be a joke there somewhere

one of the numerous reasons I have him on ignore. you bastids quoting him is a drag

topflightpro 03-18-13 06:14 AM

I have several teammates/friends who are 1s. I want to say it took them 2-3 years on average.

One of them went from 5 to 2 in one racing season, then it took him three years to become a 1. His general statement was he got to a 2 on strength alone and then he had to learn how to race smart.

I still support the way it was for me when I was younger. Difficult to get as your points came against racing with other 1s of which there weren't very many (think of guys like Brian Walton, Eric Wohlberg, Michael Barry, Gord Fraser). Once you got there you had to continue to produce results or you would get downgraded to a 2 and could never be downgraded past a 2.
I feel that as it is an Elite license it should be kept there to a select group,

I was fortunate that I had strength at a young age and went to a 'club' that had very deep talent/coaching that taught me most of what I needed to know very young. We were fortunate to interval train on a closed 1km track with a coach on a scooter who would honk/scream/taunt etc. and from that we developed quickly.

jwible 03-18-13 06:55 AM

We have one 1 on the team. And a few 2s. A couple of our threes are getting ready to move to 2 soon, I think. I don't believe anyone I know has the extra time to make the jump from 2 to 1. The extra time of the P12 crits is what kills our sprinter. He's fine in the mix for about 60 minutes and then it's just too much, but still not bad for a teacher with small kids and 5-7 hours a week on the bike.

Creatre 03-18-13 07:17 AM

I'm about to upgrade to the 2s. I'm not too worried about upgrading to a 1. Figure it will come if/when it's ready. Not enough perks for the upgrade anyways, 99% of the races I will do will be P12 and I have no future as a pro. Though it would be nice for the epeen.

dual:
To engage in a one on one robotic slowmotion style combat, usually between two good friends, or sometimes to use to capture the honor of an oponent.

shovelhd 03-18-13 08:37 AM

Incorrect.
