Mention fail?
Mentions appear to be inop. They just show an @ sign, with nothing follwing. Even mentions in existing old posts, that worked previously, are doing this.

At lower left of page change your skin to BikeforumsNG, that fixed it for me

So I wonder what other things this skin change will break. That's the beauty and wonder of all "upgrades"....... |

In the past, there was a problem with mentioning
@Andrew R Stewart @Andrew R Stewart; As far as I can tell, no matter how one does the mention (@ symbol, or [mention] tags), the system still reads it from left to right, and picks out @Andrew, a different user. Oops, it chose to do "Andrew R", so it doesn't deal well with the middle initial, and ignored it alltogether when I tried using the [mention] tags (half worked using the @ symbol). |

Are you on BikeForumsNG? And what browser and device are you on?
Andrew R Stewart has been a member since 2012, with 11,399 posts. He has been quoted 1661 times. And, has been mentioned exactly ZERO times. On the other hand, Andrew R has made exactly 3 posts and has been mentioned 41 times (almost all having to do with Andrew R Stewart). Andrew has also made 3 posts, and has been mentioned 11 times, although perhaps one can chalk many of those to careless posting. |
^^^^^ W@G - the space(s) in the user name complicate/confound the little auto-formatter humunculus.

If you gotta humunculus I'd get a scan for it.

I'm using Firefox. However, it is not a browser problem. Although, apparently not a common problem for very many users.

^^^^^^ Easiest and most reliable fix, if doable, would be a filter on the registration process that doesn't allow spaces in user names.

Thanks for that post Trocadile [ @Trocadile ]. I have never heard of that trail. Do you or rholland1951[ @rholland1951 ] have any other information, like access points and road surfaces, especially paved segments...
PS: For some reason today the MENTION function of the BB codes blanks out the name rather than MENTIONING it. :notamused: A short while later I posted to that thread:

Thanks for those informative replies, @Trocadile and @rholland1951. I look forward to my own investigation. Unfortunately your names are still unmentionable. :(

Another example. Wipekitty appears to quote me:

What water bottle do you use?
My preference for water is flavored carbonated water. [The local brand here around Boston is Polar Seltzer and it comes in a lot of flavors.] It comes in one liter bottles with a screw top cap to contain the carbonation.

...Like @Jim from Boston, I sometimes use 1-liter bottles. I'm not a fan of carbonation while riding, but these bottles nicely hold a lot of water. I tend to use them early/late in the season when it's cooler and I'm combining commutes, transportation, and recreational rides to save daylight.

It's like a nagging marriage. I don't think I'll get scabies and die from it after 12 years. Oh well. |
