I've got Sac envy!
https://www.sacbee.com/news/local/tr...261608702.html
It'll be amazing, even if none of us live to see it completed. |
Wow, I had no idea this was such a huge project!!! I was just recently at Sutter's Landing, and saw where they're laying down the gravel base for the trail, but I figured it was just being extended upriver to the college.
And I've ridden highway 50 to Lake Tahoe, but had no idea of any trails, paved or otherwise, lol. This really will be awesome. 👍😃👍 . Now my question is, will I live to see it done? 🤔 😉 |

On top of that, many of the trails already exist and many of them are nice. This really is a great town to own a bicycle in. The house prices are off the charts, though!
The El Dorado Trail is my local weird case. It's an abandoned rail line that is, in portions, still lusted after by a train club who imagines excursion trains through the foothills. But it's in awful shape. They really only maintain the portion through Folsom and a little south. The "bike trail" by it is definitely serious MTB in some stretches at the west end. In the east it's perfectly nice for anyone. From El Dorado nearly to Camino (Apple Hill) it's paved. El Dorado Trail | Trail Map A few years ago some people did a ride from the Pony Express statue downtown to South Lake and managed to mostly avoid both Highway 50 and serious MTB |

...so as long as we're talking Sacramento, I rode past the new Specialized dealership, Paco's (another branch of the store up in Truckee) today, at 21st and K. In the window is the notice proclaiming their application for a license to sell alcoholic beverages in the store. So now everyone here will be able to get drunk and buy a bike in one place. I wonder why nobody ever did that with car dealerships ? |
I just came past this yesterday, so they really are doing something. 😁😉

And today, coming back past it in the other direction, I saw a doe & her 2 fawns, eating in a small field, right off the parkway. 😎 Twins are always cool, human or critters. 😁

“i've never understood adding links that require a subscription”
One common explanation is that the original author could access the link and so put it in their post. But maybe he had access for one of many different reasons. Often sites allow guest access or perhaps he had an account on the site. Or he lived in a certain area or had recently cleared his cookies or whatever. Do you really expect an author to test all the possible permutations to make sure of your access? It’s a big world out there and we assume you are a grown up who can navigate through it. |

It says "Subscribe to continue reading", with all options wanting money. I get this with every link to the Sacrament Bee (the New York Times, and Washington Post are others). So, how many permutations is that?
I'd be really surprised if Firefox is able to get around paywalls, but maybe they are. |

I have an extension called Print Friendly & PDF; if I click it fast enough it'll capture the article before the paywall comes up. Also, when I originally went there, I could read the article, though they encouraged me to subscribe.

Caught red-handed!!!! 😁😋😁 That software was merciless. 😉 I bet you got into a spell-checker war with the software, and this is how it punished you? 🤔😁😉

I can't help thinking of Ming the Merciless, on the really old Flash Gordon show. That was in the early '60s, that we saw reruns, the show must have been from the '50s? 🤔😎

I went past it again today, and grabbed a couple more pics, on a different phone. It looks like this one has a better camera, but a crappy speaker, lol. 🙄😖 I'm using Android 11 GO, which just got updated last month. It's supposed to help cheapo smart phones run better. 😉
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...72ad2ae0ea.jpg BTW, took this pic from the bridge, obviously, which gives us a much better idea what they're doing. Makes ya want to play with the old Tonka trucks, huh? 😁 |
Going East a ways, towards Folsom, you go through Gold River & Nimbus. That's where I started seeing these signs. God bless the salmon!!! 🥰😁

They put in a fish ladder for the hatchery but it just goes where their big hose used to. It does not go to Lake Natoma much less Folsom Lake. So no salmon going up Salmon Falls any time soon...

Progress Report: The progress continues to progress. 🤔🙄😉
It seems kinda slow, so far, but at least they started working to the West of the bridge now, too. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...da51e3f297.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a65e0ad6e6.jpg |
Status report. As of this afternoon, the progress is still progressing. 🤪😉
It seems they had some extra visitors today, no idea what that was about. 🤔 https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...762c1c4594.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...71c0a2b128.jpg |
Lucky; all our trail work is still in the planning stage with nothing to see for at least the next year.

Traveling East on that MUP, away from the college, you cross Howe Ave. They just recently cleared the weeds & graded it, for a street type entrance ramp, to the MUP. There were asphalt paths before, for pedestrians, but not even close to wide enough for a vehicle. The new one could probably accommodate a semi-truck. 🙂 It's not paved yet, but probably will be, next time I go past it. 🤔 |
