Crown Land Camping in Alberta

Hello!

I'm looking to do some bikepacking this summer. I'd like to go through backroads and camp in Crown land in Alberta. For those of you that reside in this province (if any), do you know of any Crown land areas to camp in? I would be travelling from Calgary.

Thanks !

My advice is watch where you step. Or where you pitch your tent.
In the fall I rode from Hinton to the IA along the Forestry Trunk Road. Lots of great camp spots, both random and official. Unfortunately the random camping areas are infested with poop.
The behaviour of campers was one of the incentives behind the idea for new parks in the Bighorn region, to regulate the proliferation of new trails, abundance of garbage and human sanitation problems.
Its worse south of the Red Deer river and better north. The area is well worth visiting as long as you are aware of the situation.

The backroads map book (Brmb) series seems to be pretty highly regarded as a good tool for scoping out crown land routes. Be aware - it was an absolute zoo out there last year. Mostly it's guys in trailers though, so easy access off the roads is what's in high demand, on a bike you'd be a lot more nimble and easily be able to scope out decent spots
