Hello from Central MA

Hello - I'm Daniel and have re-entered into the biking world after having taken decades off from the sport. I grew up a biker largely due to my father's passion for the sport, mostly for exercise and recreation. I spend years riding throughout the Washington D.C. area, PA in the Amish country, and ran several youth races in town, then strayed from the sport in lieu of other activities. I've picked it back up and am pushing to get back into biking shape. I've been riding approximately 15 miles/day alternating days on/off and have progressed thus far up to about 15mph. I live in a pretty hilly area so I am always getting a good mix of easy and hard routes to ride. I've invested in a newsed Giant Defy composite that's outfitted with Shimano Ultegra group-set, and am now adding in a few Wahoo measuring items so I can begin to see cadence and heart rate. I just switched from traditional pedals to a set of Shimano 105 clipless and Fizik bike shoes which have been a fantastic improvement in the riding experience.

I also have a passion for cars (BMWs and Porsche's), work on them as a hobby so that I can drive them on road courses and every once in a while, time trials. Love cooking, which from an exercise perspective makes my biking much more useful to burn off all of the food I like to eat, not to mention my love of good beer which isn't much help either.

Just your typical middle aged guy that found a new healthy hobby I can enjoy with my wife who I'm trying to get out with me periodically. Just bought her a new bike so she can join me on my evening rides after work.

Maybe I'll run into some of you in/around the Bolton, Stow, Hudson, Harvard areas where I tend to ride.

Welcome! Bikes and cars are always fun. Riding is great, I get to mess mechanical things and help get healthy at the same time.

Hi and welcome back to cycling!

Sounds like you're easing back to it pretty good and at a nice pace too!

I'm another car buff so that's something else that you and I have in common.

Welcome to Bike Forums, dcteague! Heart rate and cadence are a good start, but just wait until you decide to start looking at power.
