Cheap Chinese Bike Quarantine Build
 

Hello, I'm new to this forum and just happen to be building my own bike during quarantine. So far I have gotten all the parts for my build except for the wheels. I was measuring and pre-fitting parts and noticed the press-in BB doesn't have L/R, arrows, dots, notches or markings of any kind indicating the drive side. As far as I can tell, both bearings are exactly the same. Only thing different is the inner sleeve which has a flange on one end and straight on the other with o-rings on both ends. Would it be safe to assume the end with the flange is the drive side? Thanks in advance and be fore warned as this is just the first of many questions to come. It is safe to assume that asking the manufacturer is a pretty good idea.

I replaced all the press-fit BBs on my Chinese builds with thread-togethers. Heavier, but absolutely bullet-proof.

Thank you Maelochs. I just sent message to the manufacturer, waiting for their reply. I did, however, think about getting a different press-fit BB. Never even thought about threaded BBs...dammit! now I gotta tell the wifey I have to buy another tool.

Nothing wrong with Press Fit.
Just get a good One Piece BB and you'll be fine.

By the way @Hog chef,,,, you are three posts away form being able to post pictures, so you had best start shooting now. We want the full breakdown on the buildup.

I got a quick reply from the bike frame manufacturer and the side with the flange is the drive side. I'll probably stick with this BB for now. I'll post pics one I have all the parts, wheels and all. Keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up! Later...

cockpit: plenty of now-familiar options
controls: the target for knockoffs seems to be Shimano EZ-Fires and similar level derailleurs. Some of them with shameless Shimano labels

Everything but the pedals (Speedplay), cables & housing (Jagwire), tires (Vittoria Rubino), tubes (Conti Race) and bar wrap (ESIgrip), are all Aliexpress cheap Chinese bike parts. I'll list prices and weight. I still need a few more posts before I can upload pics. So, until then, keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up! Later...

Almost forgot, I was able to get a pretty cheap but very decent bicycle repair stand from Home Depot, RAD Cycle Pro Stand Plus $49 + Tax,S&H. They were going quick so act fast if you need one. keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up! Later...

BTW the top tube on a carbon frame is quite thin. Clamp very gently or better yet clamp the seat post once installed.

Just like I wouldnt put Chinese food in my mouth off Ebay, I would be the same with putting my ass on Chinese bike parts without a thorough search and reviews.........

ignore the Chinabomb haters. They are typing their posts on a Chinese-made phone or PC while telling you how bad everything from China is.

Loctite I believe is a two-part process, with 609 or 641 and a catalyst or hardener. And once it is in .... I wouldn't feel good about pounding it out. If the BB cups fit you shouldn't need Loctite, and if you need Loctite you need to get a BB which fits (IMO.) Otherwise CF past I'd say.

Ids that sort of a Pinarello clone? I know I have seen those chainstays but my brain is pretty old and not so useful. ..... Looks like a Workswell WCB-R-226. I was considering building one--even bought some parts---but then decided I had too many bikes already.

I chatted with the ladies at both Workswell and Tideace. The frames looked identical to me, probably same factory. I went with Tideace because of shipping, 5 weeks. Wheels are coming rom Elite Wheels. 9 days to manufacture, 7-15 days shipping. We shall see. Damn, now I'm hungry for Chinese food. Good call on the Chinese food, thanks. Stall on the build, still waiting for the wheels. Received 1 set of wheels from CSC for the wife's bike, so hopefully mine should be arriving soon. Quick question for those who wax their chains. I don't ride in the rain unless I get caught in a sudden downpour, which rarely happens in the Bay Area. Anyway, I plan to start waxing the chains on our bikes. I already have new chain sets ready to wax and when those are done, I'll be replacing the current ones on the bikes. If the old chains are still good, I'll clean and degrease those and get them waxed ready to go. My question is, if we give our bikes a quick wash almost after every ride, how long will the wax last? I don't wash my bikes that frequently so i cannot tell you, but if you don't soap the chain or blast it with a high-pressure stream of water, that will help.

Good clarification.

I spot-clean my bikes frequently (except my rain bike, which actually needs it more.) I use dilute Simple Green and a soft cloth to take off any grease, spilled sports drink, sweat drips, or sand which might mess up the finish or just look bad. Never takes the wax off my chain.
