I posted a video about my take on road biking with guys on E-bikes

I was on vacation in Arizona, and had my first real exposure to e-bikes. It was an eye-opener for me, given that I live in Dallas, which is flat and has very little e-bike penetration.

Can't tell who is riding what.
Just an hour and a half of road riding video... I watched 2 minutes.

Been living in the future of biking since 2015. What's changed is that there are now lots of better bikes for roadies.

I think the statistic mentioned in the video is that the total Euros spent on ebikes surpasses what is being spent on regular bikes. With regulations making bikes so expensive in Europe, it's probably like 1 in 5 bikes is an ebike. Still really high.

An hour and a half? Got a reader's digest version????
Maybe you should tell people its only 30 minutes long
(plus an hour of scenery).

good video about e-doping. ;-)

I can (sofar) nalways tell ebikes, because the cadence is so slow compared to their speed. I custom built my bike (in 2013) for a cadence of 100rpm (at cruising speed of 25mph). No one knows it is an ebike. (Its a specialized, and was built shortly before the first specialized ebike was released and the stupid price of $7,000). Of course with some more low powered road bikes that is starting to change as you mentioned.

I use it for commuting. Love to ride for fun without e-assist. Fortunately I can find rides that match my pace, and so far don't really get dropped - so far at least.

Never used ebike for a group ride - that just gets too controversial. I have thought about it, but I would get dropped if I had an ebike - they don't have the top end.

Ebikes are great for recovery days, when I want to bike commute.

ebikes are great for motorpacing - we use one in our indoor velodrome. I hate the fumes from a 2stroke (in our outdoor velodrome). Last thing I want when I'm at my limit is to breath CO2!!! An ebike is better than a car or 2stroke engine any day.

100 watts sounds like a nice boost, but when your bike weighs 2x or 3x more, it kinda kills some of the advantage.

yep, Track bikes - on the track
and gravel bikes - on mixed surface rides
those are good purchases.
(our gravel is often smoother than our paved roads).

Too bad you had to turn around when you got to the gravel.

30 min commentary.

Basically I said that e-bikes are going to be a big part of the future of cycling in the US, even with road bikes. In the video I get dropped by two super old guys on e-bikes. And I drop everyone else. I had never before ridden in groups with e-bikes before this trip in AZ.

You uploaded a video, great. Keep it up. Now for the bad news, its way too long. Longer than most movies in fact. Edit it down to 5 minutes and it will be something spectacular. Also, never say umm, in your video...ever. Well maybe if you're being interviewed? Then again, not even then. Write a script.

I gave you a thumbs up to encourage you to keep uploading videos. Hopefully, they'll get better with time. Good luck.

I think you are right, and also I think I might just stop posting videos altogether, lol.

Well, giving up is one way to avoid any criticism. But what would that say about you taking the easy way out?

Please don't stop; just edit them down to salient points or leave them as is and make a note in the post to say "Example of xyz @ 2 M 30 S". Do it multiple times for the ideas/info you want to get across. I don't have an E-Bike but they interest me. It'd be a shame not to have folks like yourself posting real world experiences.

Actually, the first minutes of the video gave me the film maker's message, and I enjoyed hearing his point of view. I have never thought that ebikes would make much penetration into the road riders.

E-Roadbike vs Regular Roadbike.

I though this was appropriate due to the subject matter:

Yeah, it will be interesting to see the changes - especially when price drops and a clean integrated designs become more prevalent. Currently you can only have one of those two, not both.

I've had a ball being the only one around with an ebike, on my stealth bike (doesn't look anything like an ebike). Mostly it just shocks cars that I can keep up with traffic on lower speed roads (well, the bike is faster if there are many turns). But clearly ebikes are quickly going to loose their rarity. They do take a skill level to ride at the 28mph range though. That is a concern.

I was out after 3 minutes, but I do agree, EBIKES will be the future

I think it will eventually make a lot of penetration. Especially in smaller scenes with more elevation/climbing.
