Nice Turner.....

Gotta say, I was a bit pissed about how poorly this climbed, but I got used to it. Or maybe I just dont care, because it goes like whipped, CO2 powered, gnar down hills compared to the can-o-ale. Now rather then a fine line between plowing into a tree and going way to slow (as on the old frame), the bike lets you know when you're angering it by slowly loosing traction at the rear.

And, for a laugh, this pic is from around '92 or '93 I think. That's me sliding to a stop on my ass after getting launched over the bars by a large rock buried under some loose sand. The bike was my first mountain bike, a low budget Raleigh, with a very early Marzocchi suspension fork on it. No, I don't still wear the purple helmet. :D
http://www.mts.net/%7Ebean1/cycling/BeanCrashola.jpg on the edge of the trail - caught my pedal as I was flying by. I never saw it - all of a sudden I was airborne. I thought the front wheel had hit something, but friend riding behind me saw what really happened. Endos are always such fun. |

Incidentally...is that a front specfic tire on the rear? |
It is in fact a front tire, and I'll sacrifice some turning for the ability to have some traction up hills (I found this layout gives me the best traction). And everything is setup exactly the same way on this bike as on the old one was, just I think The shorter chainstays may have changed the way I ride a bit (I ride more neutrally then before when I leaned the bike more)

working on a low, low budget project. Work in progress shot (was afraid to open a wip topic for it, but can i?)

It isn't a bad looking bike. What's it weigh?

That Giant is thread worthy. Good inspiration for peeps wanting a nice ride but not alot of dough. Real sharp so far...

Stock for now, but I will be converting it to a 1x9 setup in the near future. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3464/...520977132f.jpg |

Just picked up my new '08 Giant Trance X2 today! Heading out riding again shortly. :D
Stock componentry I think, 'cept for RaceFace Ride XC cranks instead of the LX. Already lowered the stem 1/2", and it has another 3/8" spacer under it. Might lower it again. I have short legs and a longer torso, and if I don't lower the stem on my bikes, it feels like I'm sitting on a bench. :) Otherwise, it's awesome. Still tweaking the air pressures for my pot-bellied self, but I think I'm pretty close to a good setup. I have two weeks of holidays coming up in 8 days, and I can't wait! :thumb: |
This is pretty much a whole new build save for the saddle and a couple of other things...Mary's Loop in Fruita...

So...what U got going on down there in the nether region with your little 3ring circus...and a guide pulley? Has your triple been "stung"?

Hey Bean, nice to see another Winnipegger on here.
Here's my XC ride. Only change from stock has been the juicy 7s (cheap shimano hydros were leaking from factory) and better tires (Geax mezcal 1.9s very nice, very fast, nice grip). plans for future? - X0 grip shifts/x-9 rear nicer shock with remote L.O. (thinking SID race). we'll see though. http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/4548/dsc05048d.jpg |

And yes, that is an XT GS cage derailleur. FWIW, I'm running an 11-32 and a 22-32-44 up front. I suppose it gets a workout...although, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that...???? I mean...if I'm going up, I shift...then when I go down, I shift some more. |

Plus is that a mid cage RD? Living in fruita though, I'm sure it's getting a work out. How 'bout posting some riding pics in the "Daily ride Reports". Nothing like some Fruita stoke!
