Best Mountain Bike under $500?

Can anyone suggest me a good mountain bike under $500.

It really depends on the trails but I would recommend spending a bit more - your essentially buying a bike to beat up, you want it to be decent quality!

New, or used.

My Gary Fisher Cobia isn't beat up, and I plan on asking close to this price when I list it. It's not for anything very serious though.

And a modern full suspension bike will cost a grand+ for a nice used bike that's about five years old.

Check craigslist and offerup in your area and get a used model that sold new for 1200.

Looking for a quality mountain bike to get off-road and unpaved environments? The 2018 Gravity FSX 1.0 mountain bike is one of the best brands you can find on the market now. This is a reasonable bike with 24 speed dual suspension and Shimano front and rear derailleurs.
This is an affordable bike that's packed with many attributes. This is a full suspension bike that is designed with a durable aluminum alloy frame.

I'd recommend buying a used model from any of the reputable brands. Once the market settles, you'll be able to find some decent rigs for $500.

That's a great bike 😊

Look for a used bike for sure. DD got one prep-andemic from Walmart but I'm sure you can't get anything like that anymore.

Schwinn Axum DP - 29x2.6 XC tires stock, boost spacing, 1x8 drive train, OK mechanical disc brakes (180 mm up front), KS dropper post. The biggest reason why this is the best option is that it has a tapered head tube which means you can put modern forks on, not to mention it has modern geometry with 73.5 Seat tube angle and 67.8 head tube angle. I upgraded mine to compete with the Trek Stache and its my fastest MTB. Here is mine with a Manitou Markhour fork + 36 mm Sunringle thru axle front wheel + DHF/DHR tires with stock brakes at bike park:
