Is there a difference between the left and right baseplate for Speedplay Cleats?

Hey folks,

Can someone please tell me if there is a difference between the left and right baseplate on Speedplay standard cleats? If so, how can you tell.

I've included photos of what I believe to be the left cleat.

TIA!

When you compare the two plates to each other, what do you see? They will be the same.

Right, they look identical with no visible markings denoting left and right. I contacted Speedplay customer support and the agent told me that there are left and right baseplates. I guess he misunderstood. The "cleat surrounds" are labeled left and right.

The fact that they are not labelled probably answers your question. The “left” cleat in your photos (what led you to believe it was a left cleat?) looks symmetrical from above and below. But what about the side profile? Is there any curvature there that could potentially be handed? That’s the only way I could imagine them being handed.

Not at home but can look later.

Yes, but do we need to add their weight for watts per kg calculations?....

That is what happens when Wahoo buys companies but does not bother to learn anything about the product. Frankly, the C/S agent is ignorant!

There is no difference.

Both left and right baseplates fit flush.

To Wahoo's defense, they agreed to send me replacement baseplates after I told them the left baseplate didn't align with the cleat and that I was unable to mount it to my shoe, (true story). For the moment, I'm using a baseplate from an old cleat.

If it looks like a duck, etc.
