Orbea Katu
 

Encountered a new-to-me minivelo today, the Orbea Katu. The weight is not given, but the components sound at least decent. Comes in IGH and derailleur versions with disk brakes, front basket mounted to head tube and fenders. Looks like a Origin 8 Bully. Available in the US at Denver Bike Cafe.

My memory is fuzzy but I think I test rode the e-bike version at a tour/show last fall. I essentially use my Dahon D7 as a mini-velo so the Katu would be a lovely upgrade. Just wish there was a dealer close by.

It appears to have an aluminum frame. Is the forl Al as well?

Saw one on the road the other day. Nice, practical little bike for rides in the city.

I have ordered the Katu 50.

I am glad you all think it is a good bike, I agree.

Because of its size I will be able to store it indoors which was a big plus for me.

I do like the ebike version, but need to wait till I have more funds.

Look forward to riding it, I should get it next week.

Clean looking bike. Reminds me of the i:sy that has been around for a couple of years. Not a folding bike but a compact bike, initially designed as possible rental bike - very robust, very (and very quickly) adaptable to different riders, easy and very comfy to ride and to store (folds flat and takes only little space).

I test-rode the i:sy a couple of months ago and really liked it. Too bad that I don't need another bike.

I had the same thoughts. I think the compact category is quite practical for urban dwellers. The Orbea looks like a nice entry.

Just picked up mine today, I opted for the Katu 40. Given that they made a point not to list the weight of the bike I was pleasantly surprised at how light it is.

It won't win any races but its a quick little bike, it should make for some fun little trips around town. I will say the basket not moving while steering is initially jarring but easy to adjust to. Very practical and well designed bike.

I am currently looking into buying it myself. I would like to know your thoughts on it and how the daily use or it is.

Minivelos have been welcomed and made their home on this channel for several years. They share many characteristics and parts with folding bikes, and it makes sense for them to reside here. Anyone who thinks otherwise is out of touch. Good to see another minivelo and minivelo owner here.:thumb:

Want this so much, but with limited space, that means ditching one of the three bikes I have. They are already taking up space in my apartment building's foyer. Don't think management would appreciate a 4th bike out there.

Nevermind, it does indeed come with the front basket. I was confused by the site recommending the basket as an accessory.

Hey What fenders do you have on this?

Anyone put a rear rack on their Katu? If so, please share what works. Would like to make mine a grocery workhorse so I need more cargo space than the front basket (which is great by the way). Would like a rack that is 20 inch wheel specific but that limits options so I'm open to racks for larger wheels. I tried transferring my Dahon rack over but the arms were way too short. There's quite a bit of real estate back there on the Katu.

I put a basic Topeak Explorer on the back of mine, and it works great. I carry one or two Ortlieb Sport Rollers on it for grocery runs.
