Some sort of Triathlon on SGRT today

Fortunately (or was it?) I was going south when they were going north and I headed back north when they were going south.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say I don't care for organized events using the river trail. There are little kids roller-blading, dogs, walkers, joggers and no shortage of recreational cyclists, and then you get the morons on TT bikes blasting through with as little concern for the rest of us as possible. I will say that only seemed to be a problem for the blokes at the front, most of them were pretty reasonable; it was just crowded.

Another river trail peeve - why do dog owners have to clean up after themselves but horse owners leave their immense piles of horse poop in the middle of the trail?

And last: PSA: the underpasses were a little treacherous with loose sand right where it was hard to see and right where you need to turn to stay in your lane. (Obviously this was more of a problem with today's crowds). Ride safely!

I'm ok with running events on the trails. Sure it clogs them up, but it's good to have the trails being used by the public. A bike "race" on the trail seems iffy. The official speed limit on those is like 15mph right (not that anybody obeys that, especially me...but I'm not organizing an event either)? How big was the event?

It felt pretty big, maybe a low couple hundred?

I think it was this one:

As usual it was just a couple chuckleheads acting like chuckleheads. I guess that's true on any day!

I agree with some of that, and do not like any sort of events on the trails. Don't even really care for big pacelines either.

I can't say they are 'acting like chuckleheads' if they are racing, its really the city and race promoters fault for putting a race on a bike trail.

My big pet peeve about trails are pedestrians period. There really is no safe speed where bikes and pedestrians co exist, and for every mile of bike trail they have 25 miles of sidewalk or pedestrian only trail. I still cringe remembering when I hit a 6 year old kid who darted out in front of me a few years back.

NOT a good idea...agree with you.
