I got my B17 Champion Special Honey Steel/Copper Rails model there. No issues. The real thing.

I left the Brooks at home on a recent week-long cross-state ride (BRAG) to avoid getting is soaked by rain. The plastic covered Terry Fly worked well in relief. But when I got home and put the B17 back on and went for a ride, my butt was very happy to be back on the Brooks.

I guess at 215 I qualify as a clysdale.

I have both a B17 and B17 Champion special.. The champion special is a little thicker leather and noticeably took a little longer to break in than the stock B17, just take that into consideration.. As a big rider, the B17 saddles are a dream, just wide enough for 200+ riders..

220 ish here and I ride a WTB Speed V Comp and a Specialized Avatar. IMO the Specialized butt fitting is the ticket, the WTB saddle is like 4mm wider than the Specialized and they both fit pretty good.

Alright, you've all convinced me to go with a B17. What is the difference then between all the different models, such as narrow, champion, etc.? And thanks for that Alfred E. Bike link ... those prices are by far the cheapest I've seen!

If you are 200+ go with the Standard B17 or Champion Special..

The champion special is thicker leather and you get larger copper rivets and rails..

There is no difference in dimensions.. Do not forget the proofide and brooks wrench..

I weight 210 pounds. I tried the B17 and hated it. My seat of choice on all of my bikes is the Selle Italia Flite with titanium rails. This saddle works for me but saddles are personal and what works for one person may not work for another.

I'll toss in my bit for Brooks, I'm hardly a clydesdale, more of a colt, but I highly recommend getting the "pre-aged" B17. I LOVED mine from the get go. It wasn't hard like a rock, and just works great.

Saddles are probably the most personal part of a bicycle. What is perfect for one person is a torture device for another. That doesn't make one or the other a bad product. It's all about finding what works for you.
Brooks saddles are particularly subject to this. I find the B17 to be perfect for me. Brand new out of the box they feel great and they get better every time I ride. Other people can't stand them. I think the break-in talk is way overstated. You aren't waiting for it to get soft (it won't). It just gradually molds itself to the shape of your sit bones. Take it easy with the Proofide or other treatments. You can ruin it with too much of that stuff. It's not so much for softening the saddle as for protecting it from sweat and rain. Get the wrench if you like, but you may never need to use it. If you use it more than once or twice in the life of a saddle, you are probably doing more harm than good.

less known (today saddle is the Avocet. It comes in 3 widths, R-for racing, M-fro men, and W-for women..

I find it the most comfortable saddle for me. Saddles are individual but before you go buy any "top name" saddle at least take a look at Avocet as well.

I like my Selle Italia. Not as comfy on short rides as my previous saddle(surprisingly good cheapy that came on a hybrid) but I can go much longer without getting numb or sore. I spent three hours on my bike tonight and my backside isn't hurting at all.

Edit: I'm 264lbs (lost 11 already :-))

Fizik Aliante here. I tried both it and the Arione before buying and the slightly concave shape of the Aliante fits my nether regions better that the flattop Arione. If you can find a shop that will let you try before buying, do that...

95kg/210lbs - I use a selle italia prolink gel flow(the one with the cutout) on potholed London roads. No problems even with an extra 5-10kg in a backpack for the daily commute.

I'm with Grasschopper on this one. I went from a Brooks B-17 to a Specialized Alias saddle. They have the butt fitting system that tells you which width fits. Their saddles come in three widths. I absolutely love mine....

I agree with this, you might spend a little more when you actually buy it from them (as compared to a 'net deal) but the delta would be nothing compared to the cost and hassle of buying/selling/discarding saddles until you find the right one. I ride a Selle San Marco Rolls - an "old school" classic - on my steel bike, and recently upgraded the stock saddle on my cf bike to a Fizik Arione . The Arione has been great right out of the box, which surprised me - but I should qualify that by saying "out of the box" means that my lbs let me try it out before buying and gave it to me for the lowest price at the time (when shipping was factored in) to boot. Rolls is much "cushier" and heavier, but I still like it too much to give it up.
