Fantasy Tour de Suisse + general TdS discussion

yah...it’s that back to back, one-two combo of the dauphine and the tour de suisse. some awesome riders participating in the tour de suisse: sagan, matthews, viviani, dennis, thomas, bernal, carthy, mas, pozz, et al.

https://www.velogames.com/

league name: bike forums

deadline to register is saturday, june 15th @14:30 cest (central european summer time). good luck!

slcbob 06-13-19 05:18 PM

Quick hit placeholder team in place.

I suspect I will remove him, but I will sob when I do: Taco Van der Hoorn. That may inspire my next nom de guerre.

diphthong 06-14-19 04:08 AM

taco...i saw that and thought best cycling name since lars boom.

slcbob 06-14-19 10:56 AM

It was a sad moment, but necessary. I needed mas Mas and menos Taco, to avoid becoming carne asada for the wolves that are gathering at the chalet door. My new and hopefully improved team is locked in. The VeloGods can make their usual sport with it.

Bring it on, people! It takes a village, AKA eine kleine Dorf, to make it a little harder to get on the BF podium and, therefore, more momentous when one does.

he won the first stage last year...and he's a favorite again...going with kung with a stage one win.

I see you went with Dennis, too. Yeah.

This may hurt.

I see it's the usual suspects again! Rock on, ladies? and gentlemen??

diphthong 06-16-19 01:36 AM

stage two prediction...as much as the stage lines up for the classics-style guys (viviani, sagan, benoot, gva, etc), going with albasini ftw.

Not really a "sprinter's stage" is it?

one4smoke 06-16-19 09:37 AM

Good grief. Bora gave that away. Sagan obviously had the legs to win it, but no help from the team. Why oh why did they let Sanchez stay out front with no real pursuit the last 5 km???

diphthong 06-17-19 02:27 AM

stage three... sprinters with a little bit of classics punch with that slight uphill finish. would love to pick matthews but will pick sagan ftw.

slcbob 06-17-19 03:59 AM

Yes, Sagan. Trentin and Matthews in the mix, just to rub it in that I almost picked them. Elia MIA from the top bunch in the same way I predicted for Tejay, so maybe that means he wins.

I'm spending more energy trying to rationalize my picks than analyze my predictions. No, really, I'm going to do well in the later stages. Look out. Be afraid.

I would like to see John Waters Degenkolb get a result before he takes July off, but I fear he is doomed to the little bunch just behind the podium.

Whooooo Hooooooo!!!

Dude, you're crushing it.

+20 points for lapping the field.

And you're welcome for me putting the "curse" of Tejay on the Italian champion.

diphthong 06-17-19 05:20 PM

i got 4smoked. that leaders jersey wasn’t even warm. i like that mix of sprinters/classics guys ya got.

diphthong 06-17-19 05:21 PM

“the case of the missing italian sprinter”...paging frank/joe & nancy.

diphthong 06-17-19 05:27 PM

stage four...looks like yet another stage for the hard men aka classics bros. could be sagan again. could be matthews or *gasp* even vivi. gonna ride with gva to break a little dry spell.

slcbob 06-17-19 07:04 PM

Blah blah blah Sagan. Yeah, I got nuthin.

Praying for a miracle in the second half.

diphthong 06-17-19 07:09 PM

alas, slcbob, our “miracles” have come and gone for the year. we are naught but cheez whiz on the crackers of life.

slcbob 06-17-19 08:54 PM

Velogames is a dog eat dog world and it looks like we're wearing Milk Bone underwear. Along with Mr. Christian. Or is it Capt Bligh?

slcbob 06-18-19 09:57 AM

So with the Ineos voodoo and a strong tailwind from the slcbob curse, it looks like Egan Bernal and Tejay van Garderen will be duking it out for the podium at Le Gran Boucle.

Elia likes the tailwind, too.

Small consolation, one4smoke doesn't have Matthews, but those riders are certainly on a storm and probably out of my reach. I have a long row to hoe pulling the (s)pokes back once the road tips up. I think I can. I think I can.

diphthong 06-18-19 03:51 PM

well well well lookie who finally found a stage win. about time. i just love it when a plan comes together a la today’s 1-2 punch of vivi and matthews. talk about a last hurrah tho. thomas the train is gonzo and so are my chances for the top step of the podium. c’est la vie, that’s what all the people say.

slcbob 06-18-19 04:33 PM

Tomorrow may be a day for the break. My heart says Kung. Or maybe McNulty stretches his legs. Or LL Cool S and Jan Hirt take off and make it interesting for Astana. Then my head says shut up, heart, you have no clue.

Glancing at the teams in our little league, I note that I am in proud possession of 50% of the picked riders who have scored 0 points to date. 3 are mine, of the total of 6 that we all own. I am glad I am getting this out of my system before Egan, Tejay, and I dominate at Le Tour.

diphthong 06-18-19 09:26 PM

taco tuesdays was in the break today...

again...another classics/hardman sprinters stage for stage five. i'll take gva-again.

i'd be happy with another king kung stage win.

diphthong 06-18-19 09:31 PM

and when i saw thomas crashed out, i immediately thought of bernal unleashed (not unlike a young contador) in the tdf. never want to see anyone injured or out
but i had a fleeting moment of all the young guns led by bernal, buttressed by poels and knees. pretty sure i'm not the only one. what say you?

The climb with about 40km to go may prove to be a bit much for him, but well see. Maybe a good opportunity for another breakaway win.
