Is Electra Townie 7d a beach cruiser?

Is electra Townie 7d a beach cruiser? I just bought this bike recently.
The townie 7d has a straight handle bar compared to the electra cruiser. The townie can pedal backwards and it is not used as a brake.

My townie 7d feels alot of bump in the sidewalk. I'm wondering if I should switch to better tires that will absorb the impact. Maybe I should have bought an Electra cruiser or a mountain bike with better shocks.
Overall, I still like my townie if the road is completely flat. However, sidewalks here in Los angeles are not really that flat.

You could try different (less) air pressure in your tires or a different saddle. Roger

I switched my handle bars to the Electra Bullhorn and Cafe ones. The bike rides more like a cruiser then. I have a 21d but wishes I had a 7d.

The Townies have an aluminum frame, right? A tensile steel framed beach cruiser will generally ride smoother, but it will be heavier.
-I think I would experiment with the saddle and tires, as rhenning suggested, before trading in the Townie.
-maybe try a suspension seatpost.
