Well here goes.... a couple of new Canyon Roadlites
 

A few years ago I read about how Canyon Bikes were making a new carbon fibre framed flat bar road bike. At the time I told my wife if there were any way to get a couple of those we would. But, alas Canyon wasn’t even in the states. Then the news of them opening sales in the states last year got me thinking again a nice new Roadlite CF 8.0 for the both of us would be great. However upon contacting Canyon USA I was told there were no plans to sell the Roadlite series here. But, you never know so please sign up for our email news.

So after three years and 30 K miles on our current flat bar road bikes, Giant Fastroad CoMax ones, it was decided that we would upgrade them to the new R8000 series add a new wheel sets and go tubeless. It’s been three months since the updates and the bikes are great. So a few days ago I received an email from Canyon USA entitled “Introducing Roadlite”…… Are you kidding me! Off to the web site I go only to find they are only bringing in the low end 7.0 and the high end 9.0 LTD. So I did the only logical thing….. ordered a couple of the Roadlite 9.0 LTD one for each of us. They should be here next week. I talked to my wife and justified them as our 47th anniversary presents. (Please don’t bother to do the math and yes I’m older than dirt)

The current plan is to keep the Fastroads for travel bikes (we are on the road with our motorhome about 4 months of the year). They have lived off the motorhome for the past 3 years anyway. That should keep the Roadlites in pretty good shape and out of the elements. According to the tracking they should be here next week. I'll post an update when they arrive.

I've been riding the Canyon Endurace CF SL for almost a year and it has exceeded all my expectations. I'm sure that you'll be pleased.

Not sure if I should just say positive comments on nice bike ...........or just be jealous that I cannot afford such a cool looking bike............

Well the bikes were due here on Tues. But a nice surprise was this morning’s Fed Ex ground tracking report that they would be delivered today. It was a little too cool in North Central Fl today so waiting around for the truck wasn’t a problem. They arrived just before noon. I assembled mine the medium first and it took around an hour as I read each step and double checked everything. My wife’s the XS only took about 15 minutes. I had intended to take a number of photos of the put together… But I kinda got into it and by the time I remembered the phone they were done. Very easy to put together and the quality is amazing. Even got a tag on the frame signed by the person that assembled the bike at the factory and the person that packed it. There are many y-tube videos on the unpacking of Canyon bikes and I have been at my LBS to see how many of the Giants are packed. I have to say that the guys at Canyon know what they are doing.

Basically the bike was assembled. The only things needed were to unpack the box, undo the velcro straps holding everything together. All the tools needed for assembly were included even the pedal wrench. You need to install the handlebar, put in the seat post (seat attached) and put on the front wheel air the tires and you are done.

Many reviews of Canyon state that you can’t get any extras thrown in on the buy. They have a no discount policy. I found that to be true. But after contacting them I was able to get free shipping ($89 each bike) and 4 water bottles. Plus living outside of CA no sales tax.I have an appointment with a LBS for a check and fitting before our first ride on Thursday.

If you are looking at a new hybrid I would give Canyon a look. Anyone with basic skills can put it together in an hour or so and the value appears to be high. This year they are importing two versions of the Roadlite line. The top of the line 9.0 CF LID (these) and the CF 7.0 which is the same frame based on the new 7000 105 Shimano series for about $400. Less than the Giant FasRoad.

Yes the cassette is huge. Don't forget though on this bike it is a 1 X system meaning it doesn't have a front derailleur so you only have 11 speeds.In order to make the range the spread of the gears is greater. I'll remove the dork wheel and spram tape protectors off the rear once we decide to keep them. Another nice thing about Canyon is they give you a 30 trial period and you can return them for full credit for any reason during that time.

Exceptional value for money, by all accounts, including yours. I would have considered this one in particular, but for two things. First, although one could get one up here (Canada), the price (exchange + import duties etc.) would be insane. Second, the geometry: these are very aggressive. In my size (Medium), the reach is perfect but the stack is waaay too low.

Nevertheless, if they suit your needs, these are beautiful bicycles!!!! Kudos!:)

Are you able to adjust the handlebar height or bring it closer ?

No the handlebar and stem are one piece. However, Canyon has a great fitting tool you take all kinds of measurements and it tells you the size bike to get. In our case the suggestion was dead on. I called them on it as well since I have had only large frames and my wife small in the last 3 sets of bikes we purchased. However, using Canyons fitting guide I was a medium and my wife an XS. Taking measurements off our Giant Fastroad CoMaxs the Canyons are spot on.

I'm 5'8" with a 32" inseam and I ride a large Giant FastRoad CoMax.

What are your measurements?

I'm 5"10" with a 32" inseam. So you would be a medium or even a small on a Canyon.

Interesting to think about sizing/importance thereof! I'm 5'8" (173cms) with a 33" (84cms) cycling inseam, so quite long legs/short torso proportionately. Canyon's sizing puts me square on the small. The reach would be do-able, but the stack -- at 550mm -- is waaay too low for me. The integrated bar/stem pretty much puts paid to any significant adjustment, unless one were to convert it to regular. The 573 on the Medium would be better, but that one begins to move 'out of reach' (sorry!) for me, and the bike overall would be getting 'big'.

Goes to show, different brands fit differently -- and how important it is to know what works for one. The bike I have on order has pretty much the same geometry as my existing one (going on 10 years with it): a Medium with 400mm frame reach and 583 stack: just right for me. If the stock 90mm stem is a little short, simple matter to switch to 100. I like my bars slightly below saddle-level, and slightly 'out' in front of me.

Put another way, Specialized Sirrus works for me; Canyon probably wouldn't be quite right. Gorgeous bikes, though (did I say that already?):)

Beautiful bike and generating a lot of interest on the board. Are the wheels carbon and are the axels, through axels?

Yes they are Reynolds Assault AD 41 carbon wheels with thru axels. The bikes are very light and responsive. We had our first ride today a short 22 miles on the Withlacoochee with our friend DGoodrow it was a great inaugural ride. Have to work out a few seat angles and just ordered a couple of pairs of Ergon GP3 grips. Looks like they are keepers.

Talk about customer service. I noticed a couple of small rubs on the left hand brake lever and emailed Canyon about them. They asked for a few pictures of the damage seen below. Here is a copy of the email I received from them about the issue:

"We've very sorry to see this damage on your brake and would like to help resolve this. In this particular case, we're more than happy to reach out to Tektro, the manufacturer of your brake to see if we can source replacement hardware(which we sadly don't have here at our warehouse). In addition to that, we'd also be more than happy to cover the labor of have the new lever installed.

The other option, is that if you're ok with keeping the bike as it sits, we can refund up to $100 to keep the bike.

Which ever your preference is, we're more than happy to accommodate as best as possible.

If only I could get $100 for every scratch on my bike... I'd be stinking rich now (although I'm responsible for pretty much all of them) :innocent:
