Show Your Miyata 1000!
During some searches of posts- several people have said "someone should start a Miyata 1000 thread."
After a cursory search- there's no actual "show your Miyata 1000" thread, I figured this was as good as an excuse as any to post some M1000 pr0n! 1990 Miyata 1000LT: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...4f355b11_o.jpg No Bikes Allowed by Dave The Golden Boy, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0760853a_o.jpg M1000LT by Dave The Golden Boy, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...155d4fc3_o.jpg M1000LT Bars n Bag by Dave The Golden Boy, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3e7e10a6_o.jpg M1000LT Drivetrain by Dave The Golden Boy, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e648e7ff_o.jpg M1000LT Drivetrain 2 by Dave The Golden Boy, on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...28d1ce08_o.jpg M1000LT Seat n Cluster by Dave The Golden Boy, on Flickr @Chr0m0ly, @bike Wonder anyone else!!! |

Might I suggest giving us the usual specs that we always want to know on these ? Shifters, crank, cassette, derailleurs, racks, etc. I think it would be awesome info to be able to access from this thread !

Same frame, different builds. In the box right now, taking one season break - thinking on how do I want to build it next year, will likely go 650B (already got adapters to move brake shoes down but also considering relocating studs so I can use Paul's canti's I have. Just for the bling, very happy with CX70s on)

I have a 3rd one I recently bought, but it's a 1989. Currently rebuilding it for my dad so him and I can go on tour sometime in Ontario.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ab6beceea4.jpg Basically the same specs as my 91. |

I'm wondering if there should be a thread entirely dedicated to Miyata 1000s. I seriously love the look of them and every single one I see posted here is elegantly customized. It's hard to keep track of them all!

I had one briefly last year. Was almost 100% stock, but WAAAY too big frame for me, so it went to a good home in the PacNorWest. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9958db08fe.jpg
As purchased in seller's garage... https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...f47cd6c4aa.jpg ready to put in the box... |
How about Miyata 1000 based bikes? Specialized Expedition? Univega Specialissima? Were the others?
This 1989 Koga Miyata Randonneur Extra is essentially a 1986 Miyata 1000 with some extra bits brazed on. Extras include the BB dynamo engagement lever on seat tube, and internal brake cable routing along the top tube. More specs can be found here https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...de3e734ef6.jpg |

Dirty Miyata 1000LT

I'd post mine, but it got stolen in 1989.

Interesting to see some model years with spoon seat stay caps and other model years with flat MIYATA embossed stay caps. It isnt even consistent where for early 80s had spoons and late 80s/90s had flat caps. It seems to switch year to year almost.

I haven’t done anything with pictures on here in a while so I hope this comes through from PB.
My ‘84 Yata. Never had a disappointing ride on it. The gearing is perfect for general riding. I’d make a few changes for extended touring like aero brake levers but it is fine right now and my son has claimed it when I’m done. http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n...644BCEA450.jpg |

My wife has all kinds of plans for that life insurance money when I'm "done". You know "accidentally" falling down the stairs or whatever... :D |
Lol! No not Done Done :-) Someday I'll have to thin the herd and my Specialized Expedition will get priority over the 1000 because it has been upgraded and modified for loaded touring. As of now I'm thinking the other touring bike I'll keep for a daily rider is my 1990 C'dale ST400 simply because it is a little lighter and not as similar and I'll send the Miyata my son's direction. Funny thing is that when my wife found the Miyata at a garage sale a few years ago I was bummed because I thought it would be too tall for me but it actually fits fine.

Also, for whatever reason, the 1986 model had vertical dropouts whereas every other year until 1990 had horizontal.
Another thing- I believe the "LT" on the post 1986 models was just a change in the model name- instead of Miyata 1000 (or One Thousand) it was a 1000LT. The LT didn't specify a different spec or a different component package, as on the Schwinn Voyageur SP- which was a separate bike from the Voyageur. So it wasn't like you were getting a 1987 1000 with regular CrMo tubing and MT-60 components vs an 87 1000LT with STB tubing and XT components.

My 1990 Miyata 1000LT came with some components replaced and some wear on others and a bent outer FD cage. I had an XT derailleur, but an M900 XTR derailleur fell into my lap... and so it started. When I rebuilt my Trek 720, I specifically tried to stay away from Shimano components. With this build I tried to stay away from Suntour components. I think the only thing I chose out of that Suntour group was the DiaCompe roller cable yokes. I like those things, they're not exactly Suntour, but I also like the triangle-y ones... I think I probably flipped a coin to decide. Bars: Nitto B132 44 Stem: Nitto Technomic 90mm Headset: Tange Nova (stock) Levers: IRD Drillium Housing: Jagwire "Titanium" Shifters: I think Shimano 600 7 speed (stock) Handlebar tape: Ritchey faux leather stuff Saddle: Brooks B17 Seatpost: M900 XTR Brakes: MT-62 Deore II (stock) (w/ Kool Stop Cross Pads) Cable Hanger: Stock overbuilt awesome (stock) Cable Yoke: Dia Compe roller guy Derailleurs: M900 XTR (purple Bullseye pulleys) Crank: M730 XT Chain: SRAM PC 870 Pedals: SR SP-11 w/Cat Eye clips and Lapize straps Front Rack: Vetta Rear Rack: Blackburn Bottle cages: King Cage Hubs: Deore DX (stock) Rims: Ukai 700c (stock) Tires: Compass Bon Jon Pass 35mm Cassette: Stock Accoutrements: Acorn front bag, Planet Bike rear light, Eyelink mirror. I really love the way everything works together on this bike. It would be pointless to go through the things I like on here. The things I'm not so fond of- the outrageously expensive Eyelink mirror, the faux leather bar tape and the Nitto bottle cages. I don't hate the mirror as much as I used to- and it fits these levers best. The bar tape is to slippy- I'm used to cork stuff. The bottle cages... I want to love them- they look cool and classy... but bottles seem to stick- maybe they'll loosen up some, but I just like the old traditional style. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0760853a_o.jpgM1000LT by Dave The Golden Boy, on Flickr |

This bike exceeded my expectations and the legend lives up to its name. No flats, no broken spokes, everything on the bike performed flawlessly from point A to point B. For now, just some pics my Miyata took me on. |
