22 lbs, disk brake folding bike, anyone know this Maui brand?
 

Hi all,

Been lurking on this forum reading bike reviews since I was looking for a folding bike.

First post here so pardon any newbies mistake.

So I stumbled on this Maui City bike wooppi.com/en/bike/85-city-folding-bike.html which on paper looks really great at a great price.

What draw me to this bike is the lightweight 22 lbs and disk brake. Full details of componentry are in the "data sheet" tab.

You folks are more experienced than me to assess bikes, folding bikes. So I'd like to hear your thought on the bike, and also on this seller/shop that seems brand new.

When asking for advice, the following info is useful for determining your needs:

* your weight (bikes have weight limits)
--> 75 kg/165 lbs
* how tall you are (almost all folding bikes are size medium, ie 22" (55cm) equiv. top tube length)
--> 1.65m/5'5"
* your budget
--> that bike fits my budget, I generally do not want to buy cheap because I want to keep for a long time
* your riding experience
--> moderate. I understand gear inch concept so do not regards folder with 20" wheels as slow. Been riding to work for 2 summers already, on a regular sized, not folding bike.
* what you intend to use the bike for (eg touring, commuting, casual park riding, shopping, MTB-ing etc)
--> multimodal commuting, hence my interest in lightweight bike. My regular commuting route has many hills and crappy road so low gear and cushioning ride are also important factor.
* what country you are in, as countries tend to have different choices
--> Canada

The 22 lb. weight is very suspicious. I would be interested to know the actual weight when you get it.

Indeed the 22 lbs is a bit suspicious given the price of the bike and the rest of the rather good (in my humble opinion) componentry.

Shipping is free but if I don't like it, shipping back is on me and there's restocking fees on top of that.

So that's why I want to hear your opinion before making the jump because it's a good price but it's not cheap either.

Have you heard anything bad about this Maui brand and/or this Wooppi seller / online shop?

Does this bike resemble another bike so it might just be a rebrand of the other bike and then we can have a track record of the other bike to compare?

Looks like a knock off of the Dahon Mu. My Mu Uno is just under 21 lbs so this could be 22 lbs (are they including saddle and pedals in that weight?).

Helium in the tires?

I never weighed my $140 Sundeal aluminum disc folding bike.. but it seems light enough after I cut down the handlebar & put a carbon seatpost.
It does have the longest reach of any other folding bike I've had.
