Recumbent Seat makers
 

I am looking for a good reliable recumbent seat maker. Does anyone out there know if one. Would prefer to work directly with a seat maker and not thought distribution.

Would suggest posting in the recumbent forum for better response.

I've bought from them direct. They supplied seats to RaptoBike. They have a good web site, decent prices, and lots of different seat types. They are German but the website has an English page.

What kind of recumbent seat, and what kind of recumbent are you talking about? I'm seeing some degree of non-specificity in your request. All recumbents are not the same - some are designed to take carbon shells, some use sling-mesh, some use combination seats. If you're looking for a sling-mesh seat for a long-wheelbase bent, then perhaps ADC at Recycled Recumbents can fix you up. Or you may find something you like via a manufacturer such as Bacchetta or Performer Recumbents.

So I guess for now, the best answer I can give is "42." If you want a better answer, you need to ask a better question.

Depending on what kind of seat. I have had a seat custom made by Andrew from Recycled recumbents. He build me a custom tailored seat because most recumbent seats are too short for my back.
It is based on his standard seat. Just wider and higher back rest. I love it.

That's what I came to this thread to say! They can be custom-made to your particular measurements. You can even make one by yourself with the directions the manufacturer, A. D. Carson, put on the internet.

The biggest challenge is often figuring how to mount a new seat on your bike. It seems every manufacturer has a different, proprietary method of attaching the seat. Some degree of inventiveness may be required unless you get lucky.

This is so true. Different types frame, sliders, brackets, .... They are all different and not compatible with each other.

Thanks for the lead on this recumbent seat cover maker. I own a Ryan Vanguard with the original nylon webbing seat cover. It is showing its age and won't support me properly anymore. I talked with this maker and was happy with what he has to offer so I ordered a seat cover from him. I'll update this after receiving and running the new seat cover for a while.

I needed a proper seat for my home made delta and Mr Carson,s recycled recumbent seat looked to fit the bill. He only ships to U.S. so I downloaded the plans and am in the process of making my own. Off to the local Home Depot to pick up a 3/4 and 1/2" conduit bender plus 2 ten foot lengths of each size EMT tubes. I can attest to the fact that there is a learning curve in bending the tubes. I,ve got enough to make 2 sets now and the next stage is to make a jig so the seat spreaders can be MIG welded to the side frames. A friend gave me the seat from a gravity chair so that will be used. It has fairly heavy duty eyelets along both sides and seems quite sturdy.

I used a plastic bucket seat when I was mocking up my trike build. When it was ready to road test it I still had the bucket seat on and it felt really comfortable on a couple of short trips and I had thoughts of just leaving it on.

Then I took my no suspension trike out on a rough trail. Hmm, a rigid no give seat doesn't seem like a good idea anymore.

So lot's of great links and ideas in this thread. I'll sort through them and design something that has some give to it. Gotta reduce the unsprung weight a bit.

The seat seemed like a good idea at the time.

What's up with your boom and BB? The main tube looks square but the boom is round? DId you get that idea from this video?

Good one. :) No, like most things that I design the idea comes from what I have on hand and the will to make it work.

Made the front end easy, hack off the bike and use as is. It wouldn't quite fit so I slit the square tube, bent the 4 pieces outwards, inserted the tube and heated and then clamped the pieces onto to the round tube. It's a clamped sliding fit that allows for in and out adjustment.
