Compatibility for vintage / modern wheel build

I've got some time on my hands over the next few weeks, so I'm planning to try my hand at building a wheelset.

I found an old pair of shimano 600 tricolor 32h hubs at the local bike kitchen in excellent condition, clean and smooth. They appear identical to these. Rear spacing is 130mm, not 126 as that page might suggest. I was planning to lace these to some DT Swiss r460 rims.

Now the compatibility question. I'd like to set these up with a wide range 1x cassette. SRAM states their 11-42 PG-1130 fits onto 10-speed driver bodies despite being an 11-speed cassette. Will that cassette or any other with an 11t small cog fit on my vintage rear hub? Sheldon seems to suggest my hub may have a "non-compact" freehub body. If that's the case, should I swap the freehub body for one that is compact? I have an ultegra donor that could be good for this. Add a 1mm spacer as Sheldon suggests? Or should I just swap the 11t for a 12t? I'm planning this to go on a 1x commuter so I don't think I would miss the top end range that much. Any advice would be appreciated!

IF your FH is like picture #5 in your link, that's NOT a Hyper glide cassette. It's Uni Glide.
The last cog is threaded on to hold the other cogs in place.
Later versions were Hyper Glide compatible. See pic- (Or is that Uni Glide compatible)

Best to get a more modern hub if you want lots O' Cogs.

My freehub body is like the middle one. It has the wide spline, but splines end flush against the edge of the body rather than having a 1mm space around the edge like the third one.

Will I run into any issues swapping the freehub body out? I have an ultegra 6500 rear hub with a freehub like the third one in the picture. Not using that hub because it's a 28h

I think you can swap them, but I'm not positive since I don't have an exploded view for the 6400.
A 10mm hex wrench should remove either one, so it's pretty simple to give it a try.
You want to keep the DS cone/seals etc. with that specific FH body.

Yes, you can swap them. Use the DS seals, nuts and cone from the Ultegra hub, and the NDS seals, nuts and cone from the tricolor hub.

That FH is NOT 11T compatible. I got the image from Sheldon and the one on the right isn't the "Compact" version that's required for 11T.
