Possible to modify FX2 with suspension fork/knobby tires?
I have a 2015 FX2 WSD which is nice but not good for the gravel and dirt I encounter. I can't yet afford a Dual Sport, and wonder if the FX2 can have it's fork changed to a suspension one, and changed to knobbier tires? This might be a stupid question if the costs aren't worth it, but I wonder if it's also physically possible or not.
Thanks I appreciate your thoughts - |
Hmm, what exact problem are you trying to solve? The thing is that by and large suspension fork and knobbies are not required for gravel riding.

Thanks I appreciate your thoughts - Honestly, though if you really need a bike purpose built for off road, it makes more sense to sell your FX2 and look for a deal on a dual sport or mountain bike, if single track is what you want. |
A suspension fork will be taller than your FX 2's current fork, so it would raise the front of the bike up and potentially change the geometry enough to make it ride weird. You certainly can mount wider and knobbier tires, though. I imagine you could go up to a 38mm tire on your frame, as long as you don't have fenders on it. I'd probably take a couple of quick measurements to be sure before I ordered tires, though.

When you say encounter do you mean there is some dirt on a gravel trail or are you saying you take your bike to light single tracks? If the latter then i'd say just get a MTB. Otherwise, I think you'll regret getting a suspension and bigger tires. For anything decent you would be spending as much as you would for a used MTB anyway.
