And you thought your seatpost was stuck.

DiegoFrogs 03-25-19 06:08 AM

If it wasn't so sad I would be impressed.

USAZorro 03-25-19 06:09 AM

egad? Were you removing it with the jaws of life?

sloar 03-25-19 06:11 AM

I really didn’t go crazy, put the post in a vise and tried twisting it. The Jaws did cross my mind though.

No, not enough grease on the post.

Lemond1985 03-25-19 06:44 AM

Did something make you lose your temper?

Hoopdriver 03-25-19 06:50 AM

Bummer. I can't imagine what it felt like to think it broke loose only to see what really happened. I hope this was not a friend's bike that you volunteered to help out with.

Bikerider007 03-25-19 07:01 AM

Epic!

WGB 03-25-19 07:06 AM

"Frames wrecked, might as well try and save the seat post"
Pics or it didn't happen

Found the bike in the trash.

seedsbelize 03-25-19 07:15 AM

Maybe Trek will replace it on warranty.
ouch indeed

ed4406 03-25-19 07:27 AM

I guess it's strip and recycle time. At least there's parts to salvage, and better to melt down the 531 than bury it. Sorry for your loss!

texaspandj 03-25-19 07:27 AM

I think more of a testament of your strength than the how stuck the post was.
I haven't been that strong since before I knew about sex!

bikecrate 03-25-19 08:31 AM

Good lawd...the twisted metal is just amazing.

On a side note...would you help me open my pickle jars?

The Golden Boy 03-25-19 08:36 AM

1986 400 Elance?

Looks like the seat tube is made out of rubber.

horatio 03-25-19 08:45 AM

Impressive!

Are you sure you want to spend the time picking all of the broken glass out of your pickles? :)

Whew!!!!

It looks like frame restoration could be a major hassle!!!

That looks like an era where things like rear dropouts are a major hassle to find replacements for.

So, take your grinder and at least cut out the dropouts. Sell the fork on... etc.

That seat tube lug looks in pretty bad shape. I don't know about other lugs. Bottom bracket shell?
