1X drivetrain option for gravel bike
 

I'm looking to buy a Basso Palta gravel bike this spring which offers only a 1x drivetrain option. Is Sram the only manufacturer that makes 1x drivetrain for gravel/cyclocross? Is Shimano rumored to coming out with 1x option soon?

Shimano has offered 1x for quite awhile in 10,11 and 12 speed on mtb. Now Shimano has road derailleurs that are clutched as well.

I'm aware of the MB 1X Shimano offers. I have XT 1x11 on one of my MB's. Problem is XTR/XT cranks only go up to 34T.

Get a shimano shifter.
get a clutched rear derailleur.
get crank arms and whatever 1x narrow wide chain ring you want.

there it is- a shimano 1x drivetrain.

The rear derailleur would have to be an XT/XTR to accommodate larger cog cassette. So Ultegra 8070 hydro shifters, XT 11-40 cassette, and a third party (maybe Easton) 40T crank. Sound right?

I wouldn't recommend 1x for socal "Gravel" unless you are putting an 11-42 on the back or higher

OK, I expect Shimano is watching Sram sales numbers and wants to get some of that market too ... if not dominate it ...

You can use Shimano Di2 road shifters with Di2 mountain RD.

I'm running SRAM Force 1 X 11 on my gravel bike, and I want for nothing. Flawless performance.

Honestly, if you;re going 1X, just go with SRAM. They're much better at it. Cheaper, too. Complaints about my Rival 1? None.

My only gripe with SRAM is that their hydro brakes are finnicky to setup. They can be setup to be quiet though but might not be an easy task.

My experience has been quite the opposite.

My Guides, on two different bikes, weren't finicky to setup and were/are quiet. My kid's Guides weren't finicky to setup and are quiet. My Red HRDs weren't finicky to setup and they are also quiet.

I'm patiently waiting to see if the new XTR 12 spd is compatible with the road Di2 levers. That would be a pretty sweet setup.

Agreed. Shimanos are truly "set it and forget it," but I had to fuss with my SRAMs constantly. Love the shifting, though.

You can probably run Ultegra RX for 11-40. I am running R8000 RD with 11-40 XT just fine. But if you are going with DI2, probably better off getting an MTB RD, so you can go bigger.
