Tapatalk Plug-in

There's a mobile app called Tapatalk which supports vBulletin 4.0.

It makes browsing forums from a smartphone much easier and cleaner. Works with Android, Blackberry, and iPhone.

I'd really enjoy being able to use this, and I'm sure other people would too.

All you have to do is sign up (I provided the URL for admins) and install a plug-in I think. Seems pretty simple, and secure.

Thanks.

***MOD EDIT***

You have the option of viewing this site in both "mobile" and "full site" modes/skins/styles.

Scroll down towards the bottom of the page, past your posting permissions, and you'll see a darker ribbon that has links on the right hand side and a drop down menu on the left that will allow you to switch from full to mobile.

We are aware of Tapatalk. Bike Forums uses too much custom code overlaid on the vB4 platform for Tapatalk to be a stable application, so we aren't planning on using that one.

Flatballer 10-22-10 09:42 PM

damn. Any plans to use any other type of mobile app like that? The forums just don't look all that great on a phone, even my huge screened Droid X.

Tom Stormcrowe 10-22-10 09:43 PM

We're working on a proprietary app. That's all the information I have at this time, though.

Flatballer 10-22-10 09:49 PM

cool, that's good news I guess.

Thanks.

When is your app going to be available? I use Tapatalk also for many other forums (ie - Weight Weenies, for one.)

I'm personally over every site creating a custom app. Some of us visit a bunch of sites and having one app for each of them wastes the user's time. Something like Tapatalk that works with multiple sites would be awesome.

lucky53s 02-16-11 05:39 PM

I just get on BF, I don't use a ton of different sites. So a proprietary app that was just for BF would be great for me.

+1 for tapatalk support. Worst case scenario it is unstable, but mostly useable. I can live with that.

+1 for tapatalk.

bigbenaugust 07-03-11 01:26 PM

(bump!)

Anything yet? I have a shiny new Droid 2 Global and would name my second-born child after Tom if y'all had a better way to do BF on a mobile.

mccornwall 09-13-11 08:45 AM

+100 for Tapatalk

The problem isn't so much stability as it is security. As I understand it, this particular plugin causes us security issues for our database and function overall.

So does that mean we should hound tapatalk to improve their security so more boards will use the application? Tapatalk is SO much better at browsing forums on my iPhone then using Safari.

Another +100. I rarely surf from my computer anymore. This would be a great addition.

LesterOfPuppets 10-19-11 01:46 PM

One minor tweak that would make Droid browsing much easier would be elimination of the attachments paperclip in the thread listing. At the zoom level I usually view in, it's really difficult to click on the number for the last page of threads that have multiple because the number and paperclip are superimposed.

Is there any information on this? I'd still love tapatalk or at least something.

I also vote for Tapatalk. There shouldn't be any security problems installing it, we use it on our (highly modified vBulletin) forum as well. It works great and makes visiting the forums from a mobile device much easier. Considering the majority of people now use their mobiles for internet, this option should be seriously considered.

Tom Stormcrowe 11-15-11 06:43 PM

OK, we are not going to install Tapatalk, just so you know. As I said earlier, we are working on an iPhone/Android ap set for the forums. There are security reasons as well as copyright on our content. We simply prefer to eat out of our own bowl. We want to use our own ap exclusively, and will be releasing it as soon as it's stable and secure. I will happily let all of you know when this is available. It will be sometime this year, I do know, barring complications.

Tex81 11-16-11 11:10 AM

Thanks for the info. Any app for smart phones would be a huge improvement. The nice thing about Tapatalk though is that we can use just one app to visit all of our favorite forums since most of them use it now. Looking forward to the upcoming BF app!

Just recently joined this forum, but would like to vote for a Tapatalk plugin. If not, any word on an Iphone app?

Tom Stormcrowe 01-13-12 10:43 AM

Indevelopment for this year, assuming all holds on schedule, nothing happens, and the creeks don't rise.

chisler 05-16-12 06:59 PM

I think it would be great if the forums introduced the Tapatalk extensions. Using one application to read a number of different types of forums is a bunch more practical than having to install a separate 'app' for any one forum/site. Is it possible for the site here to install the extensions?
BTW this site is addicting, and being on Blackberry I am currently limited to viewing its contents on my laptop.

We aren't going to install tapatalk. We do have our own apps for iPhone and Droid, and a lightweight 'Mobile View" available on ther lower left in a drop menu that may work better with your Blackberry than the full forum version.
