Bike hard case reccomendation
 

I am the market for a hard bike case so Ican bring my road bike to the USA. I have looked quite a few on Performance,Nashbar etc. One of the cases is the 2011 Team Bike Case at Performance. I amthinking that the non-square shape will make baggage handlers put it on top ofthe other baggage in the cargo hold. Any thoughts on this will be reallyappreciated. I will be transporting the bike from Morocco back to the states.

It will be pretty expensive, I'd imagine you would pay excessive shipping to get it there.

You would likely pay an obscene Airline overweight fee for the return.

That aside, I have an older ?Trico hardcase that I shipped my Roadbike across country in. Nice case, very heavy, but great bike protection. Seems I have to dissasemble my bike more than if I were to use a doubled cardboard box.

You might consider shipping it the way new bikes are shipped to dealers. You can go to an LBS and get a used box and do it yourself, or have them pack it up for you (for a fee, of course). You can also put the bike in a hard case and ship that, but that usually adds significant weight and cost.

Check the specific airline fees. Some will charge you for both oversize size and overweight, which can really add up. You could consider a soft case, which will sometime fly under the check in counter radar. See the following article: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/02/h...h-my-bike.html

then the bike wheels determine the size of the case.

Some international trans Atlantic carriers allow bike as 1 part of checked luggage.
