Replacement for Performance Shimano wheels

I'd used the basic Shimano wheels from Performance in the past and liked them, and miss being able to go there and pick up a replacement now that they've closed. There really isn't a shop close to me now, and I need another wheel. What would be a good replacement for a 26" rear wheel using an 8 speed cassette?

Locally at a shop close to you? Or online?

You can get the same or very similar Shimano wheels from many places online. I don't know about 26" wheels I presume are for a mountain bike. But still, Shimano, DTSwiss, Mavic, and many others make decent wheels.

How much you want to spend? https://www.performancebike.com/shim...h-m988/p366094
I know they are out of stock, but checking to see what your wallet can stand. <grin>

I'd prefer to shop locally, but there isn't a shop for miles around, and the closest one doesn't want to talk with you unless your bike costs thousands. And my wallet can't stand the ones you posted.:p

Universal Cycles has a lot of wheels on their site. They also custom build wheels. While I've never bought wheels from them, I have bought other bike stuff from them.

When I do look for wheels I'll often go there just to see the possible combinations of components that might be offered at what price. Then I'll do a google search just to see if I can find a better price on the same or similar rim and hub combination. Usually it's close to the same as Universal, but I tend to be patient for months and other sites would have a inventory blowout sale. However one of those sites, BikeNashbar, was bought up and doesn't seem to have as many deals as they used to.

Here is a link to Universal Cycles 26" wheels. Scroll down and you'll see some wheels on Shimano hubs and various rims.

8 speed cassette or freewheel? Disc brakes or rim? Hub spacing between dropouts?

Low cost option:
https://www.jensonusa.com/Quality-Wh...-26-MTB-Wheels
$55 for a rear (8speed)
$49 for front
I believe these are rim brakes and Shrader valve (you can always buy an insert for use with Presta
I can't comment on the quality, but DT spokes and nipples.

If you want to same wheel, write down the hub and rim of the wheel you have now. You can search online to see if you can still get that wheel. If you can, call a couple of shops and see if they can order it for you. When it comes it you can just go down and pick it up.

There is nothing special about Performance wheels as they didn’t make anything themselves.

There is a possibility that you can only find the same wheel you have Now on eBay.

Thanks for the help. I'm afraid I asked the wrong question. The advice I was looking for was "who could recommend a good replacement to the wheels I've used based on personal experience with using the product".

If you stick with brands you hear about in cycling, they are all good. Many you haven't heard about are good.

But not knowing your bike, the type of riding you do with it, your budget and what considerations matter to you, then how can any suggestion be anything more than saying my brand is better than your brand.
