33 here, but have always been into vintage everything. Recently got my cousin, 26, riding a mid 80s Centurion LeMans. His dad rode a similar bike in his younger years. I almost never see riders on old bikes near me. When I do get stopped for conversations about my bike it's from riders who were old enough to have ridden it new.

I’m 33, and the last couple of years I’ve been getting into older bikes, mostly mid-grade MTBs based on attainability (and I don’t mind chaining them up!). I’ve also been enjoying working on and flipping some older bikes and learning a lot about them and building mechanic skills in the process. Right now my keepers are a 1992 Bianchi Project-3 in great shape and a fairly worn Rockhopper Sport, probably ‘93. |
I'm 56 and can't remember why I opened this thread, but I'm glad I did cuz I found out how old y'all are, which would be totally useless information if I remembered it, which i don't.

I'm delighted to see all the keepers of the flame, under 40 that is. I hope you're enjoying the ride as much as I did.

I think I have some t-shirts under 40, but I don’t wear them much. |
I had no idea I was hanging out with such youngsters. I'll try to keep up.

I'm 31, been seriously into bikes for about a decade now, mostly vintage road bikes, initially because they were affordable. I like riding, fixing, and (to a limited extent) collecting older bikes because they fit the kind of life I want to live: simple, practical, not obsessed with keeping up appearances or chasing material possessions. I've worked in a couple of bike shops and never felt any real desire to own anything new, and since I don't race I don't need anything beyond what good quality bikes from the 70's and 80's can offer.
