My new to me IF Crown Jewel

Just got it today and am pretty excited to take it out for a spin.
Found it on FB Marketplace for under $2k
Bought it from the original owner who purchased it direct from Independent Fabrication in Newmarket NH in 2018.
Will swap out the saddle for a new Brooks and throw on some 28’s. Other than that I plan on keeping it as is :thumb:

I have the same Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheelset and the CF version of the Repente Quasar saddle; nice pickup!

Looks like a great find. Congrats!

Thanks!
Hoping the saddle is a good fit but was assuming I will prefer my standard Brooks. Nice to hear a recco :thumb:

The Quasar is a flat saddle and a little shorter than a regular saddle, but not as short as those new-fangled short-fit saddles. Hard to tell whether it would be a good fit for you or not, but from what I have read about Brooks saddles, the Quasar is quite different.

Ghazmh 09-18-23 04:06 PM

That is a beautiful and super clean bike!

For a 2018 bike that thing looks brand new. Congrats

That’s a great question. Will call IF tomorrow to try to find out :thumb:

It’s probably an “SE” edition because it has the stainless head badge. I have a 2004 Starlight Purple one rotting away in my basement. Built while they were still in MA. Somerville, IIRC. Mine has a Reynolds Ouzo carbon fork.

But the big ring teeth look a little worn, unless Campy ring tooth profile is very different from Shimano.

Maybe. Seller said he put just under 2k miles on the bike.

Just got the build sheets from IF.
The tubing is True Temper OX Platinum.

That is my idea of an excellent do-everything road bike, about as perfect as you can get.

That may be true in view of the original Mavic tires on the wheels.

Totally forgot that they keep thorough records of every build. i bought mine in 2004. When I was going to have another custom frame built in 2016, the builder asked to see the build sheet from my IF. IF sent it to me quickly.

It does seem like very unusual wear to the chainring finish for Campagnolo generally speaking, but perhaps they used a different type of black coating on Potenza than they do on the higher tier gruppos. Dunno…possibly the previous owner spent many of those 2k miles in the big/big crossover gear, which might explain the wear.

Regardless, I’d be super stoked to have picked that up for under $2k bucks like the OP did!
