You're probably automatically opted in, and you have to opt out to not receive. I got the same ad this morning but I don't really mind, as I'm not a paid no ad subscriber to BF. I probably would be if I was given the option to make the choice to pay or not annually, but the automatic renewal charge makes me not want to go that route and the side-bar ads are not really an issue -- I've actually bought some things off of a side bar ad, so that's my way of reimbursing BF.

I got it too. Bike related ads might be acceptable, but this pure junk spam is irritating.

Internet Brands says you have to opt out of the emails via the link in the email, unless or until some EU person pushes it a bit harder.
I agree they should honor the setting in your profile, but they won't, so choose accordingly.

I know some of you won't opt out via the link in the email. Good for you. You probably can filter it right to spam in your email client

I do get Bike related AD's on occasion, and don't mind as I'm interested in bicycles. This on the other hand really kind of pisses me off to think that I'm being taken advantage of for being a Bike Forum member. I don't recall giving anybody permission to send me this kind of crap! I was under the impression that I joined community of like minded people, not being thrown into the mix for profit.

Yeah I wasn't sure it really was from bikeforums, so I didn't click any links.

What makes this really devious is that this has been made to appear to be coming from Bike Forums itself.

Yeah I got this crap too. Thank goodness it went to my junk where it belongs. A shame to have to pimp excrement like this.

It’s not insidious. It’s lazy. Like the Internet stopped updating twelve years ago. I’d not mind getting ads for bike stuff. Even the ones for Bikes Direct with their breathless mattress-store exaggerations. This is just spam for a scam. I’ll unsubscribe, but they’ve lost that channel to feed me ads of more legitimate interest.

I just got an aggressive email accusing us of abusing people.

I apologize for this and will look further into it.

If you block then I'm not sure you get digests of your subscribed threads. OPT OUT of the ads instead.

IB owns bikeforums. ibemail.com is a company domain. It does come from bikeforums.

I received the same spam email to the forum-specific mail I used to sign up, so I know for an absolute fact that it was sourced from these servers.

I'm from the EU, and I did not actively opt in to ads from BikeForums.net, or anyone else for that matter.

That's a GDPR violation right there, and means the owners of BikeForums are liable under those laws. Now, how to proceed with this?

I sent an email yesterday to Internet Brands requesting investigation into this and it will be seen on Monday.
