One thing I am thinking when looking at your bike is the red bar and the position of it. the BB of the pink bike is atatched to the blue frame. this is a piviot point. The forces that are working trough the red bar is atacking your seat tube fairly high up and the bike is not really designed to take that. There is nothing on the other side of the seatpost to compensate or distribute the forces. I have done what they did on the first xtracycel atatchments, that is the red bar would go from the top of the pink bikes front top area down to behind the BB area of the blue bike. If the blue bike has a plate for atatching a kickstand this is a good place to bolt down this bar. Plse keep us updated :thumb: Edit: Early stage of Dogbike2. The black (rectangular, not round) bar is comming out from the orange area of the bags in front of the dog and goes down to behind the BB area of the black bike. trailabike part has a U joint, that red tube.. ,
you should get something fabricated without that flex joint but if it uses the blue axle solidly thru the pink BB, that can flex there and a rubber suspension block with a bolt thru it .. like brompton uses, could work. soften some little bumps Although, the pivot on B's is a carefully machined parts fit. ... |

My 2nd Build 2.0 - 2017

As my first build started at 24 kg is was getting very heavy with the extra bars and handles that I added later. Plus storage was pain when not in use and so Build 1.0 is now dismantled.
Base bike is a Tern Link D8 Folding bike. Very easy to store and the wheels are 20". Build 2.0 is lighter (18kg) more compact and more suitable for the city use. Extra supports added as original pannier rack was not very strong. (Yes the board is not straight. Intend to replace when found.) I have yet to test if it will be allowed/permitted on to the underground tube trains. Yes it is a folding bike but not a normal one. ;) |
I like the folder. I have one, but it's earmarked for another idea.
I have a handful of ideas I'm thinking on and doing a little playing with. a longtail using a hardshell golf case for storage, so it will be long but narrow (slim jim). a fatbike edgerunner style longtail (mountain goat strut), a 26/20" wheeled bike with the wheel base of a Yuba boda boda (shawty), and a 20/16" wheeled bike for a kid (crumbpicker). yes, I like to name my bikes. |

Yes it is a folding bike but not a normal one. ;) It is a alu bike with a welded on hinge so keep an eye on the frame and hinge :eek: You can carry plenty stuff on that bike in four regular paniers at the back (unless you get heal strike) and two in the front plus top of the rack. Nice! Around here they take regular bikes if there is space but you pay a fee, you could bag it and call it a bike in that case. Folding bikes (traveling for free) they often have a max folded size. This is why I liked the detatchable bike I started with (still have two of them). You can split it in two and call it two pieces of luggage. There is nothing like "one folder free per person" in the rules that I have seen but some have max size on luggage and three pieces of luggage pr person. It all depends on the rules, the driver/personel and if the bus/train is crowded. |

This time I've tried attaching the other end of the tailgator bar to the seat post at a stronger point with a U-bolted bracket but I hope I don't get any interference with the crankset or chainline, not sure yet. |

I used this one way back when I built my DIY xtracycle. I like how it didn't require welding and the original bike could be turned back into a regular bike without any damage.

It's been a while is anyone still building and using these? I am back to work on one of mine trying to get the cargo deck done and mounted. Deciding on width is stopping me for now.

let's see if this works. i see photobucket is back, but i haven't tried it yet. if this works it's a post from my facebook page. the beginning of a try at a tandem cargo bike. not much for specs yet, but i can say i only added about 9" to the overall lenth. hopefully not too bad. i'll see when (if?) i get to a useable point.

very small update. still on facebook (previous post). a bit more bracing and the basic rack made. bags brought, like the military bags on my first cargo bike try. still need to make framework and mounting for them.
