Hopefully My Last PX10
 

A few months ago I had fun restoring an early 70’s PX10. I was happy with how it turned out but I just had to have one with nervex lugs instead. Luckily I found one with nervex lugs that was actually more my size. So I sold the PX10 that I spent so much time restoring and was excited to start another restoration. I made the difficult decision to go the repainting route. Although it was time consuming and expensive (used 2 part spray cans) I love how it turned out. It was a good learning process and wanted to share the pictures with you guys, so hope you enjoy!

The dropout had already been tapped and also partially filed down so ended up going with the campagnolo derailleur since the PX10 I was taking inspiration from also had a campagnolo derailleur.

Awesome. Looks really great and I like that you changed things up a little bit with the downtube decal. Nice twist on the factory decals.

Excellent. Very nice tasteful period correct upgrades, but still very practical for a rider. I like and road the all Delrin for over a decade, but at this point in time, it's perhaps a bit too crispy.

What stem is that? It can be a stumbling block on these. (You can keep your death stems, thanks... ;)) Vintage 3TTT or something? I thought about sanding down and polishing up a SOMA or an old 3TTT. Eddy Merckx swapped in Cinelli when he road a PX10, but those are hard to come by in 22.0 these days.

It looks like you are on the right size now. I have no doubt you will immediately feel better on the bike.

Thank you and it’s an 80’s ATAX stem I found on EBay for $40. I was thinking about sanding down a 3TTT stem as well but thumbs were already blistering up from sanding and polishing the crank set.

Beauty of a job! Painting 4 sides of a tube is tough to do. I like your pictures of the bare lugs b4 paint. Cheers, Kevin

Great build job, and nicely presented here, as well. Your attention to detail is fantastic, and I agree about the period correct upgrades being well thought out and executed. Enjoy the miles and the smiles.

Quite a beautiful build, I really like the Nervex lugs and believe that they really make the those PX's that have them stand out.
I have both a mid-60's one as well as a 72 non Nervex lugs in blue and while I like the blue color I ride the white one more.
If only I could find a really early 60's with yellow NL's I would be even more content!!!

That is exquisite! If you don't mind my asking, since it's been on my mind lately, were these frames made with butted or straight gauge 531 tubing? I have had immense trouble finding an answer to that apparently simple question...

What bag are you going to put on that rack? Hopefully a Berthoud or something of equivalent quality?

I’ve never explored bags but a quick eBay search and those do look nice! I put the rack on mostly for my basketball since it doesn’t fit in my backpack.

That's amazing! I literally laughed out loud. Not sure that's what the TA engineers had in mind but if it work it works!

:lol: I did too. Excellent use for a TA rack! Took me back immediately to figuring out how to get a basketball to stay onto a Pletscher rack when I was 11. That's the first thing I ever used a bike rack for!

Tell me more about the paint job. Do you have a spray booth? What type of paint did you use?

A PX-10 is always a classy-looking bike, but yours looks particularly good. I kind of like the 1960s downtube decals, even if they are a bit of a liberty.

One of my fellow commuter rail passengers with an otherwise all-black bike did the same brown saddle / brown handlebar tape treatment you did -- very nice!
