Couldn't get a straight answer on the price. He was drinking beer at the time and started telling me about how the tyres cost $70 each and then asking me to make an offer. The hubs were XT and rims Mavic Disc. I had no idea what to offer as to not insult him as they were in next to new condition. I don't need the wheels but thought they'd be hand to have around.
I senced the beer talking and gave up.

Sticky pedals; new hitch rack

Replaced stock pedals (toe clips) with DMR V12 pedals. Goal: 100% verticality.
Also hung it on a new Kuat Beta 2 hitch rack. This is one elegantly-designed rack. Bike loves it!

Rode it 5 miles before going to work...T-sroms tonight so it's napping.

MrCjolsen 06-25-13 03:50 PM

Uh, I completely rebuilt it from the frame up - wheelset, tires, bottom bracket, headset, shifters, cranks, drivetrain. Went from 21 speeds to 24 speeds. Trigger shifters on the right and friction on the left.

Kept the brakes, levers, and handlebars. Spent about $75 because I had most of the parts laying around in my garage.

I bought Panaracer RibMo tires for my Giant Escape 2, 700x32c. They inflate to 100psi. My short little test ride of them was that these are fast. They're also pointy shaped.

Aired up tires, went to farmers market, then work ...

Took it out for a 35 mile ride. Returned home and gave it a well-deserved bath since I did ride it through a few muddy/recently flooded areas. After washing, lubed it up and have it looking like new for another ride in a couple days.

Sweet! How is the handling compared to the drop bars?

i_wanna_giraffe 07-01-13 07:15 PM

I ordered it, hope to be assembling it soon.

the handling is a bit more comfortable but the frame still feels stretch out, so i am going to change it back and return it to performance bikes where i got it. the dimensions of the frame are 50cm seat tube and 54cm top tube, i am 5'8 , i should somewhat fit but it feels like i am riding stretch limo. i rode it a total of 170 miles with 4 different stems, explored the full range of the saddle rails, different riding positions.

Continued my DIY trailer project inspired on the Carry Freedom trailer. Welded some 1" square tubing, my welding skills are better now after some practice:

Did any of those stems include a short one? I have the same problem with one of my bikes. The frame is a little too big for me and I feel stretched out. With the seat forward and going with a 70mm stem, I am comfortable. Interestingly, 60mm interferes with my standing pedal. Bike came with a 140mm stem.

Technically, today I only got the angle of my new Specialized Milano adjusted, since I bought the seat yesterday, but what the hell, close enough!

It came in 2 days assembly wasn't too bad, neighbor did a little tuning for me. I took it for a 8 mile ride yesterday. It's nice and I think with some adjustments I'll love it. The chain is rubbing and There is a strange clicking noise when my right foot is just passed straight up that I can't find the source of. My neighbor/bike expert is leaving town for a week. :(. The disk breaks are cool.

Today I donated my Ergon GP1's and silver Giant bar ends to my girlfriends bike, and grabbed a set of black Giant bar ends, this time mounted inside my new Ergon GP2's, oh and a few days ago I took out the last spacer on the stem. Yes I'm aware the front brake isn't hooked up, this was taken just after I got it out of my truck, I hooked the brake up right after this photo was taken.

Why did you take the spacers out from your stem?

I meant that I moved the last spacer to above my stem, as in the stem is now both inverted and slammed.

All is good. I kept the red cable of course for when I get the urge to change back. Initially I was only going to change the rear cables to black but when i viewed it from the front, I figured the red on the bars and the touches on the saddle were enough.
My friend here suggested white cables....So many ideas. At least a metre of cable's only a dollar.

Swapped out my 700x35c tires for a set of 700x28c Continental Gatorskins. So far I love how it rides. The next step will be to change out the cassette to gain a tighter gear range. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...psf36a3b0b.jpg

I put Ergon GP5 bar end grips on my Giant Escape. It looks like my bars are flexing it's biceps.

Insatlled Shimano PD-M520 pedals on my Giant Roam 1. This is my very first clipless pedal and I love it. Also got Diadora shoes for me self. Weird how much easier spinning the padals feels. Also I have no idea how so many people end up falling.
