Fenders?
Is anyone running fenders on their Hybrid? What kind? Do you like them? I'm considering some for my Verve 3. I specifically like the SKS Edge AL 56 but had a full suspension MTN bike in the past and have no experience with fenders. We will mostly be riding rail trails and paved paths now.

I put a pair of SKS longboard fenders on my bike a year ago and have been very happy with them. They keep me dry going through puddles and keep the drive train a little cleaner. Another benefit is that when I'm riding rail trails with the family, I don't throw as many pebbles and stuff onto the trailer my two-year-old rides in behind me. Highly recommended!

I have Planet Bike fenders on my Gary Fisher hybrid and my Long Haul Trucker touring bike. Reasonable price, they do what they are intended to do and it's a socially conscious company.

I've been contemplating some type of fender on my 2020 Sirrus. Mostly because of the grit that always coats my water bottle. I don't mind washing the bike off after a ride but don't like reaching for the water bottle and having to pull over and clean it off or remove the top for a drink.

I like the Planet Bike Cascadia fenders. They have very good coverage and look pretty nice as well. Planet Bike has a great policy with replacement parts -- they're very reasonably priced and shipped to you for free. They also do a lot for the bike community and seem like a good company to support.

I have PDW Sodapop fenders on my Crosstrail. They're enough coverage for me, and never rattle.

Thank you for the information!

I have SKS SpeedRocker fenders on my CX bike. I has no mounting bungs and these are made for such bikes. If their other fenders are half as good, buy them.
I ride all winter, in the snow and wet roads and come hope clean and dry every ride. https://www.glenn-ring.com/emonda/fenders.jpg |
Awesome, thanks for the reply and photo!

I like fenders on utilitarian bikes. Not much chance of rain here, but it just defines the bike!

As this is my 10th posting to the forum, I will be allowed to post my first photo momentarily, after this one adds to my tally :-) |

This is my Cannondale Quick 4 with the Velo Orange Alloy Fenders that I installed recently. |
Planet Bike Cascadias, on my Sirrus, and my Crosstrail. Love 'em.

I've had Planet Bike Cascadia fenders on my bike for years. The rubber mud flaps broke apart and fell off ages ago, but the fenders themselves still work very well. |

I have had good luck with theses SKS Longboards. |
No: never liked the look and never had the need to fend off mud or dirt because I don't commute on my bikes. I ride the Trek DS regularly on rail-trails, but rarely in sloppy conditions,
Then again, I did like a very nice, green, fendered Synapse that Cannondale had out in 2015, very much. I remember that its fenders were very tightly fitted, which explained the attractive look to me. But, that fit was not going to allow me to step up from the stock 25c tires; and by then, I was riding 28c even on my Domane. Consider this in your choice, and be sure that you have enough room for the limestone or whatever surface material you're riding on, and will be kicking up, to skip through. Some of the pictured fenders here appear to have pretty tight fits, and may be fine for most applications, but not for all. Enjoy your eventual selection. |
Anyone run the SKS S Board and S Blade set? I have a new Merida Speeder and I just ordered a pair of those for it. All of the bikes on the internet had a hidden rear fender mounting hole in the rear of the fork crown, but the bike I got doesn't, for some reason. Still, I'm lucky to have it and I wasn't going to wait for months/years for another model that may have the same fork anyway.

From what I can tell looking at the pictures of the S Board and S Blade set, it looks like those both use straps. The rear straps around the seat post like mine does, and the front straps around both sides of the fork. Neither looks like it needs mounting holes, but maybe I'm looking at it wrong. |
I've been looking at some fenders for my Fuji Traverse. It has fender mounts so should I look for something compatible? I was eyeballing some sort of QR type fenders like the SKS Shockboard/S-Blades. I'd prefer something that I can put on/take off quick. I don't plan on any serious wet riding but here in FL I need to play it safe for those days I might get wet and slap them on before I go.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'm trying to decide what fenders to use on my Quick 1 as I hope to get out on it more and not worry as much about rain.
SKS Bluemels Stingray - https://sks-us.com/products/bluemels...33876270186628 Kenesis Fend-off Metal - https://www.kinesisbikes.co.uk/Catal...uards/FEND-OFF The concern with the Kenesis guards is they say up to 34mm tires and I am running 35s. The reviews are great. I'll keep digging and will review posts in this thread before I make a decision. I'm leaning to the SKS due to ease of purchase and availability. |
I put SKS Bluemels on my Giant Roam. Install takes a little while but worth it. Think I have enough posts to put pics on now so once I confirm that I'll do that.
