Where does the “Made in Italy” sticker go on a Colnago?
I’m preparing a bike for Japan. Striped it. Epoxy primered it. Sanded then regular primered it, followed by high quality paint.
Greg Softely sent me the decals and tomorrow I’ll clear coat it. in the decal kit was this Made In Italy decal no idea where it should go. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5628c7911.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...69267c9ef.jpeg |
Just because you have it doesn’t mean you have to apply it. My Colnago does not have one.
That being said, prolly low on the seat tube is a commonly used location. |
|
My 1975 does not have one. Yours is newer and I certainly am no expert. I told Jack at Franklin to put original graphics on mine when he painted it for me . I think he would've put one on there if it belonged.

Clear coating is about to commence
I think I’ll put that sticker on a giant Costco jar of Nutella Somebody gave me for the holidays. One less blue bike!!!! https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...141430977.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0ff40b14a.jpeg |
Rob , that looks nice ! I like the yellow graphic with the purple. :thumb:

I’ll admit
when I saw that Black Magic Bike Painting charges $1500 min for a paint job, I thought they were nuts, and they should be pumping out several frames a day Then I did it myself. That was a lot of work. I’m sure less when you know what you are doing (I didn’t). But, almost done. Looks good. I might not shell out for Black Magic, but I understand where the $$ and time goes. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...c92ff2253.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...25c3abc2f.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9b6682d84.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...2967ae8be.jpeg Not bad |

That is beautiful , Rob.

I found the perfect place for the “made in Italy sticker”

“Made in Italy” is redundant on a Colnago. Especially a lugged steel Colnago. If you don’t know it’s made in Italy, you don’t belong owning and riding it.

It is in essence advertising. This is a liberating concept when it comes to refinishing's cosmetic decisions. A current favourite frame has only this: https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9e28c46e70.jpg (which is a joke referential to this issue). |
Robert
That's some impressive work ! What brands of color and clear did you use? |
Rob , I got a very nice paint job from Franklin Frames for a whole lot less than $1500 and it included a matching frame pump that Jack had (NOS) . I don't mean to take away from the work you did , it is beautiful and I could not even come close to that on my own. I just think that $1500 is a lot to spend on a paint job , unless there was some major frame repair or something. This was less than half that , Joe

You painted that yourself?

I would NOT leave it on a 3Rensho lest you upset the spirit world. |

Presumably, no harm in putting it on -- or leaving it off. |

I used glue stick on the 3 Rensho. T’was a joke.
My hands got some of the color on them. I stopped by Trader Joe’s and the clerk (who I know) asked… ”did you just rob a bank or something?” I didn’t understand. Then he added… ”did a dye pack go off?” As he pointed to all the purple on my left hand. Yes, I found a run. It will polish out. while I wish it had a long time to cure, gotta plane to catch. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...02931415b.jpeg What’s left of the paint on my hand https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...286fd0c59.jpeg Let the fun begin |
That may be the nicest "amateur" paint job I've ever seen on a bike.
|
Materials added up to $180-200
many hours sanding. I now think $800 is fair to pay for a frame/fork/pump paint job |
