Look out for that ice, Where !
Today I went out after a snow fall from the other day. It's been pretty easy riding on the ice for the last month, but cover it with snow and look out. All the ruts created from the snowmobiles, snowshoes, and hikers are now hidden under the snow. It's impossible to pick up the ruts and at times they can just throw the bike in a total different direction, or grab your wheel right out from under you. Thank goodness I have cat like reflexes (lol) because it threw me 6 times, but I landed on my feet each time. The hardest ride of the season, but I had so much fun can't wait for tomorrow.

Right on! Any given day there’s a new surprise during the winter. Was talking to a skier telling him I prefer straight ice over gravel. Gonna watch your vid when I have WiFi. Some day some way gotta beg borrow or steal a studded fat bike |
The solution: suspension. At least a fork. I’m an old mountain biker and is very familiar with riding rigid. It sucks. Once I put a suspension fork on my mountain bike, I never looked back. A suspension fork allows the front wheel to float and follow the terrrain. A rigid fork will just plow into whatever ruts are there and trap the wheel. Even fat tires won’t float and follow terrain like a suspension fork will. |
Geez, I hope that tresspasser was not one of those "no wave" types, you might have ruined his whole week. Loved the regional accents, clip could probably have been used as a "This Old House" segment on winter MTB riding.

10 degrees warmer & the ride would completely different cuz sticky snow provides traction. the XC skier I spoke to on my trails said the skiing was very fast & nothing was sticking to his skis. looking at my tires, I noticed the same experience

finally watched. those ice cakes on the trees showing how high the water gets when flooded is so surprising! falling while standing ... lol ... I did the same when I got too close to a river & slid down the embankment. stayed upright but flung my handheld camera onto the river so I had to venture out just a little to retrieve it.

Every year they flood the area and once they open the dam again you get the crazy ice rings on the trees
