Rust Removal and Paint Preservation

Good morning, and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
First, looking for advice on removing spot rust without damaging or limiting the damage to the surrounding paint.

Second, suggestions on bringing out the remaining color in the paint and preservation of the existing paint.

Thanks,

Alton.

Depending on the rust, you can use 0000 steel wool, or a wire brush.
The paint you want to protect with black electrical tape.

Just wrap it around at least 3 times ( in case you slip and scuff the tape) it wont go thru.

Some pics would be most helpful

Good Luck and take your time

Google oxalic acid site:bikeforums.net for many discussions of this topic. Evapo Rust has gotten good reviews but I’ve never used it. Good luck!

Unfortunately I am still a noob here so I can't post pictures.

As far as paint protection I was thinking post rust removal. Any particular sealant prior to a wax job?

I have used Mothers polish for light rust spots or fine steel wool for heavier rust. The steel wool will affect the paint a bit more than metal polish. You can buy Mothers at just about any auto parts store and it is great for polishing alloy parts.
