How to make my wife's bike ultra plush?
My wife has a an old school flat bar road bike she's asked to make more comfortable and plush. By that I think she meant more upright with some comfort bits. I ordered some 700x40 slicks and now looking at the cockpit. Anyone with the Jones bar know if putting one on will reduce the reach and thus make her more upright?
Also going to add a thudbuster as well and thinking about a redshift stem but not sure if it will work like it's supposed to with Jones bars. She also finds 2x annoying so going to convert to 1x with something like 11-46 rear and 36t front. |
Sounds like she needs a different bike.

Tubeless, plus tires, suspension fork, suspension stem, suspension seatpost

Jones bar will help reduce reach, but not as much as a North road or Albatross bar. I would also try to get an "up-jutter" stem that has a ±17° or ±35° rather than ±7°. I would do that before a suspension stem.

Tubeless wheels and larger volume tires will make the most difference.
Tubed tires with a higher volume could still help. 650 sized tires You could do a light weight front suspension like a lauf fork. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...4e62fbed7.jpeg |
I use a Lauf fork and a redshift seatpost (the Thudbuster is really ugly and Redshift works really well).

Jones Bars with Ergon Grips helped me a lot with comfort up front. Brooks spring saddle with rear comfort (heavy).
