Raleigh Superbe: replace seatpost clamp pinch bolt with quick-release?
Q: Would it be possible to replace the pinch bolt at the seatpost clamp of a Nottingham Raleigh ('74 Superbe) with a quick-release?
I'm still trying to figure out the best way for me (5'11") and my wife (5'6") to switch bikes, and we both like to ride this one, but carrying around a wrench (and Whitworth, at that!) seems like a drag. |
It's worth a try. I have not tried this with any of my Sportses but it should be doable.

You Can use a quick release. I have replaced the bolt on a few of my bikes with quick releases with no problem.
This way we can easily make adjustments enroute. |

The seat post quick release skewer is similar to the original bolt, with a lever on one end so instead of a wrench you can use your hand to tighten. This is available at your
Local bike shop or at Amazon.com |
...generally here, all the swaps go the other way, from QR to a nutted bolt because of the guys who steal the saddle and post. If your bike is rarely unattended or locked up, a QR works fine.
