2020 Olympic Equipment
 

The Olympics is always an event where manufacturers and teams showcase new equipment. As per UCI rules, the equipment must be publicly available before the Games.

Koga Kinsei should take many of the medals in sprint events.

Lafargue, Rudyk and Awang and relevant teammates should ride Look T20/R96.

Glaetzer & Co. on Argon 18 Pro.

Brits either on Cervelo or new Lotus-Hope.

Largest sizes of the above mentioned have pretty long reach and front-center, some 450 and 650mm, respectively.

However, Yuta Wakimoto & Co. performed very well on their short Bridgestones. Even the large size of this brand has reach just under 400mm. Wakimoto won silver 0.036s behind Lavreysen i.e. some 70cm or just a wheel! I would expect him to compete in the sprint in Tokyo.

Pretty sure Awang will continue to ride that unreasonably pricey bike with the weird front wheel that he and other Malaysians rode at the WC's.

Also the new Bridgestone looks pretty long to me, and has nothing to do with the Bridgestone that you can buy. Wakimoto is relatively tall.

That's not it. That's the previous production frame that's been on offer to punters since 2010 or so. I've not seen any info on how/where to buy the new national team frame.

They listed both T9R and T8R. Huh, Awang left Look. Just now I saw his new WX-R, an unknown thing for me.

Finally, Velodrome Shop published its lists of equipment used by the gold medalists at the 2020 UCI Worlds (sorry, I am still not allowed by admins to post URLs).

P.S. First read: (1) Emma Hinze and Lea Friedrich used the above mentioned 2.0-mm chain, namely KMC X11-SL; (2) All sprint golds were won either on Dugast or Continental Olympic II tyres instead Vittoria; and (3) Look introduced some "Track" version of the Blade Carbon Pedal, designed to be strap-free, however, both Dutch and German teams utilised it with straps.

I would call this list "inaccurate", to be polite.

Hy Clythio, I agree, Velodrome Shop Straps listed as used by several world champions sounds very obsessively, indeed.

Finally, I could post pics and links. Here is Hoogland after Berlin 2020 Team Sprint Final (WR). I can count 60-teeth chainring. So here is 13-teeth sprocket (73.6 kmh in last 250m, some 132rpm).

What is an 11/128 chain?

Hmm, that would only work out to a 52t chainring which would seem to be against the recent trend toward big macho looking rings.

Also, Dutch sprinters were pretty clearly on Shimano DA pedals. 2500W , where are you getting this info?

It is a relatively new road chain width standard. 11/128 means a width of 11/128 inch as popular single-speed widths are 3/32 and 1/8. Initially, it is invention for road bikes with multy-speed cassettes and name "KMC X11" states for 11-speed chain. Chain rollers have 2.18-mm nominal width so cassette sprockets and chainrings must be of 2.0-mm width.

German women reportedly used these chains and rings at Berlin 2020. Dutch machos clearly stayed on 1/8 Izumi V-Chain.

I'm not sure the Velodrome Shop list is really accurate. For example, most of the German team were on Ultegra chains on the last two World cups, not the KMC. Of course, KMC could have decided to sponsor the team for Worlds, etc.

I just looked at the Velodrome Shop list. Is this where that is coming from? It seems to be a fantasy list made up from parts they stock for sale.

It would be not so hard to take such an info, for instance by sending questionnaires to relevant teams. All sprint golds were even divided amongst just two teams on two sets of components and apparel. VS list FES frames though do not offer them. However, they are specialised business, list all Scattos, Kinseis, KMC-11s etc., and are able to supply all that.

I am not their advocate and even I am not very satisfied by their services. It taken more than six weeks and two emails to receive my hanlebar from them. On the other hand, I saw Conti Competition on their lists. This modest tyre was used by an World Junior Champion. Then I stopped to to hesitate between Sprinters, Schwalbes, Tufos, Challenges, Veloflexes etc. and ordered a pair of Competitions from Dolan sales. So yes, it was very helpful for me to take into consideration their lists.

It’s a bit all academic, the Olympics will be postponed to next year.

I'm new here.

UK used the Hope/Lotus in Glasgow but they said (Chris Hoy) on GCN that they will keep it in secret until the Olympics.
Anyway, Jason Kenny will use the T5GB. Maybe the lotus was not as rigid as they thought.
