Sharing some pictures I have taken since "commuting" I have been trying to get up and get rolling in aobut 15 minutes. It seems to be a bit darker in the morning lately. Garmin is even on night mode for first part of the ride. I try to get around what my round trip would be just out in the country.

Great pics! Glad someone is riding!!

Great pictures, and wonderful scenery for riding.

Thanks it is a very different rides than my usual commute. Usual commute is from suburbs to downtown. Now suburbs to countryside.

I am riding my road bike more than my Salsa and it is such a fast bike the commuter will be hard to adjust in my head.

I went into the office today for about four hours. First commute on the Stormchaser. I'm really liking it so far. Time will tell if it's just the excitement of getting a new bike and finally one that fits!

Rode 4 days to work this week for a total of 82 miles. The rides were hot and no wind in the morning, The rides home along the New Bedford shoreline were hot and windy.

It is Monday and I am back at the work week again. It was a very nice commute in with the temp at 74 degrees this am. I dropped my car off at the auto shop for an oil change so my mileage this am was short a mile. Also while I was speeding fast downhill and just turned a bend in the road there was a gaggle of turkeys crossing the road. I hit the brakes hard as I did not want an accident. They ran back to where they came from with mom standing on the side of the road waiting till they all crossed. She did not get upset. I also saw four small animals in the road but they were so far ahead I could not make out what they were. By the time I got to where they had been they got back to the woods. The area I rode on today seems it was more rural than my usual ride.

Is it August or October? .. 59 degrees this morning. Uneventful this morning after yesterday. Some how the low screw backed all the way out, getting that chain out was a messy bear. Looking forward to buying the priority 600 next year.

Consecutive bicycle work commute number 1017:

Took some vacation last week, so I didn't ride at all. Started going back to the office every day this week, and my legs are reminding me that I took a week off. Funny how fast that happens.

Had a driver intentionally close pass me on the way to the office this morning. They veered towards me so their passenger mirror was well inside of one foot from my left elbow. Then once they were ahead of me they resumed a normal lane position. Jerk. Thankfully I had my GoPro running and caught it on video. I contacted the police and shared a description of the vehicle along with the license plate, and offered to provide the video file. Hopefully something will come of it, if nothing else to get a police visit telling them "don't do that again."

Tundra Man, does South Dakota have a 3' passing law?

Yes. 3 feet minimum below 50 mph, 6 feet minimum above 50 mph. I estimate this driver was going about 35 mph.

Sounds like a moving violation, then. I don't know if the police can do anything about it, though. Some places the cop has to see it or the driver has to confess before they can write a ticket.

The officer called me this morning. He ran the plate number and got back nothing. He said if they could locate the driver I could fill out a citizen arrest form to charge them with the 3 foot violation, but without knowing who they are my chances are slim. He wasn't at all interested in seeing the video I took.

So basically, this driver lives to torment another day.

I think I can still count on one hand how many times I've ridden to work this year (haven't cut my thumb off with the table saw yet)...today makes number five for 2020. A little chilly on the bare arms, but a nice uneventful ride in.

Darth Lefty 08-14-20 12:00 PM

I rode in and back out again, the thing I needed to use was down for maintenance. Will return after lunch, driving, because it's damn hot.

tubbywhiz 08-14-20 04:02 PM

I feel in danger every time I commute. Wish there were more bike lanes in my area.

essiemyra 08-18-20 04:14 AM

Back from vacation and I was able to commute to work by bike this am. The roads are wet after heavy rains last night. Though no rain on my ride so a pleasant ride in this am.

Tundra_Man 08-18-20 07:56 AM

Here's my most recent commuting highlights video. This episode features the biggest lightning bolt I've ever seen, and the above mentioned driver who intentionally close-passed me.

Nice and sunny today, how could I not ride? Today is forecast to be the hottest day of the year in my city (33C/91F), so I guess I'll look forward to a good sweat for the ride home.

HardyWeinberg 08-18-20 01:05 PM

My 2nd commute since March! 75F and partly sunny

It was a pleasant commute this morning with the temp at 59 degrees and dark skies when I left the house. I saw a skunk and he decided to change his course of travel. He turned around and went back in toward the yard he had just walked out of. I was glad to see him turn around and not spray me.

I've hit a couple while driving a car, at high enough speed that the car was gone before the spray came up. Somehow I doubt you'd be that lucky on a bike.

groovestew 08-19-20 10:00 AM

Two days in a row...what's wrong with me? Nice and sunny, and uneventful except that today is the first time that I can recall ever doing the whole ride in without stopping. Yes, I ran a couple of stop signs and one red light, but I managed to luck out on the rest of the lights. Never unclipped the whole way.

Yesterday on the way home, I was huffing and puffing my way out of a deep ravine, when I heard knobby tires coming up behind me. A guy on a mountain bike passed me like I was standing still, pedalling like he was on flat ground. I really hope that was an e-bike.

Darth Lefty 08-20-20 12:21 AM

Let the record show I did a round trip on Monday

HardyWeinberg 08-20-20 03:04 PM

Rode in today also! Had to print on Tuesday, sign something today. Today, 75F and splattering raindrops

wphamilton 08-24-20 08:16 AM

I got a commute in last Thursday! First time in months. We're still locked down but needing to download files was a good reason to reserve my spot.

I had to take surface streets since the Greenway was flooded and in the hills I really felt the rust from so many missed commutes. Near 90 and I arrived a bit soggy but feeling good.

My weather instincts are also off. It started raining as I left for home, and it became a pour just a quarter mile from home.

groovestew 08-24-20 10:03 AM

Rode Friday, and again today. That's 4 bicycle commutes in the past 5 work days. I'm doing awesome! (Never mind that I've ridden a total of 9 times this whole year...)
