Been in Dallas 3 of the last 4 weeks. Blech. I saw ONE cyclist this morning... finally.

I rode the Wildflower century this past Saturday. Spectacular scenery and excellent weather

Very nice, I’ve always wanted to do the Wildflower, but have so far had scheduling conflicts every year.

Beachgrad05 05-02-19 12:31 PM

@tunavic That looks AMAZING. Must put on my calendar for NEXT year. Those roads look really nice.

jsigone 05-02-19 12:39 PM

Got a flat in the bike I'm using for this weekend's BWR. Was impossible to bead again, looked around and Pulled out a 1/2' stick/bark from the tubeless tire. The patch kit was melted so used 2 sticks in the hole and finally got the tire to bead. Looks shady as heck to hold for a 140 mile ride on sunday......

This is the third time I've ridden this one. Highly recommended. Great SAG stops, no real traffic to deal with, rolling hills, livestock grazing in green pastures, typically great weather and a real meal (bbq chicken, salad, beans) at the end.

These photos are from the same area but taken on Friday AM

I definitely want to do this. Beautiful countryside! I should be in excellent cycling shape by next year!

BWR? I think I'd spring for a new tire, unless you are secretly hoping it fails and gives you an excuse to avoid all that pain! :)

Good luck either way!

I had thought about using it as excuse but that would really suck and be paranoid on decents. I didn't train enough this yr for anything, I only been doing lunch rides than the one long ride a month. So I'm winging this event too. Hope I don't cramp too much. Should be fun either way, weather should be mid 70s here.

I got some amazon prime Panaracer Gravelkings, fine threaded 32c tires coming in. Should be less drag than the 38c hutchinson overides that got a nice hole in them. The dirt is tamer this yr so slicks is fine. i rode my pinarello w/ GK 26c tires on part of the BWR course.

talk about waiting til the last minute. Tires will be here tomorrow. I should have enough spare tubes in that size. test ride Saturday, race/survive on Sunday. 135miles/ 12k vert, 46miles on dirt, 70 miles on head wind coming back from Mts, hand full of F bombs

Glad you have some new ones on the way. As they say, if it wasn't for the last minute nothing would get done!

I remember when we were eating lunch in Oceanside, BWR came up and you said to start training in December. I knew I wouldn't be able to do that, so I'm not there. I might try the wafer next year.

tsanford2926 05-03-19 06:43 AM

That looks like a beautiful ride. We have some great scenery in Kentucky but they come with a price. Hills everywhere!

Finally got a ride with the Zipp carbon bars today. Wow! So damn comfortable. No road buzz. OMG. Need to put carbon bars on my Domane now too.

Last weeks climbing resulted in back spasms this week. Despite that, I rode Team OC’s Solana Beach ride. Back was starting to seize up once got to pizza port.

TrojanHorse 05-05-19 11:33 PM

How'd the waffle ride go jsigone? Survive?

jsigone 05-06-19 11:25 AM

BWR....always one of the hardest days on the bike every year. Finished my 5th version. Still epic, still hard as heck, still fun, testing luck and skills in the sand pits &rock gardens along the way. I finished almost 1.5hours faster ride time than in years past despite having low miles this year. I didn't crash, i didn't have any mechanical, didn't cramp. The SAG food was good, they had cold brew and cokes at every station, added some GuOctane pills are each stop. Bike was setup w/ Panaracer Gravel Kings, 28c up front and 32c rear, 85psi in each. And I felt like I beat the crap out of the bike in the rock at speeds but it keep going.

Finishing good was plate full of food, 3 beers from the tap and 2 bottles to take home, finisher shirt and some tired legs. Actually my legs are fine, feet and lower back are sore from the 50miles of dirt.

Dang, that's like a 13.5 mph average with over 11K and dirt. Good ride!

I put two sets of wheels up on LetGo plus a old trunk mount bike rack from Rhode Gear. I have this guy who wants one of the wheel sets. He showed up at meet up point near my home w/o CASH. Guess he forgot the most essential part of transaction! We left, and he messaged me about using Zelle. Honestly I felt he was shady and was not going to go electronic route. I feel somehow there would be some way for him to rip me off so I said no to that, cash only. Supposedly he is going to try again today. Who does that? Show up to buy something w/o money?

jsigone 05-07-19 11:33 AM

It was fun, I'm back to normal weight again and body seems recovered. I'll try to ride tomorrow and see how much syrup is still in these legs.

oh gotta love those "tire kickers"

indyfabz 05-07-19 11:51 AM

Did the 115 mile overnight two weekends ago and cooked a nice dinner in camp. Brief shower on the way home Sunday. Nothing major. Another overnight coming this weekend. This one with real hills.

He messaged me thru LetGo asking when to meet today. Of course, I am at WORK. I told him same spot at 6pm tonight. told him to bring cash in exact amount.

Yeah, that's a bit weird. I agree cash is king for this sort of transaction. Watch your back, hope you're meeting in a public place.
