Whistle sound when braking in new carbon (rim) wheels
Dear all.
I just got a set of Bontrager wheel set which are rim and all carbon. I installed the wheels and the included calipers. I love the wheels and felt a big difference. However, when braking (especially hard), I hear a "whistle sound". Is actually a pretty cool sound and doesnt bother me, but I wanted to make sure there is something I installed the wrong way. |
No texture on the brake tracks?

Yes, they do have a texture. If it's normal, is all good! Sounds almost like a spaceship! |
Yep, textured brake tracks are going to make sound.
My Caden carbons have no texture, and the braking is incredible. Seems texture isn't necessary if the pad compound and brake track composition is right... At least in the dry - I suppose texture probably helps a fair bit in the wet . |
Normal, my Bont Aeolus Pro 3 do the exact same thing, with the recommended brake pads.

Dixie? :innocent:

I liken the sound of mine to a jet turbine winding down.

Most people go with Black Prince on their generic carbon. Some companies actually develop pads specific to their rims. I find those tend to have the best braking performance.
