Mavic Ksyrium Pro UST tire choices
 

Greetings,

Have anyone of you tried using any other tire for mavic ksyrium pro ust rims? The Mavic Yksion Pro UST tires are nice but do not lasts as long.

I am looking at both Tubeless or Tubed tire option.

I'm happy with the Yksions but always interested in what else out there works well.

I thought that I had seen that the new ISO/ETRTO road tubeless standards were going to be heavily based on Mavic's Road UST - this would give Mavic users some choice in the coming year... but at the same time, I'm seeing reports that new tires that conform to these new standards, like the new Schwalbes, are having trouble with Mavic tires. So, in short, I don't know wtf is going on.

I really like how easy to install the Yksion Pro tires are and very smooth rolling and fast. Only downside is i'm only getting about 1200 miles on it.

How many miles are you guys getting out of it?

Been riding Yksion Pros since last May. Have about 1800 miles on the set. Still look good.

You dont view saying/typing the name as a downside?

Yeah, it's an oddity that supposedly Mavic, Michelin and Hutchinson were the 3 co-founding partners of the "UST" bike tire standard a long time ago. However, I don't think Michelin sells any tubeless UST road tires and the gravel model (Power Gravel) they do have is not marketed UST.
Similarly, Hutchinson has their Fusion and Galacktiks, but I don't think they use the "UST" moniker anywhere in their marketing.

I have the same wheels. I've also been very happy with the Yksion Pro's.

UST is a standard gosh-darn-it-all.. hence the "Universal" bit in the acronym. There has to be more than 1 tire that works, right?

It's suppose to be "Universal". So far, i haven't found another alternative.

So far I have 800 miles on my Yksion tires and they still look fine. They've had 5+ punctures from thorns, and have sealed every time. I was so impressed with their ride quality that I set out to stockpile them. Good stuff.

I am doing the same as well. Stockpile them when I can find them at a reasonable price. Mine only lasts around 1200 miles which is around 1.5 months, so it gets pricey after a while.

Well, frankly, that's why I've recommended that people be wary about buying UST wheelsets from the start. Having a standard in place is great, but it's not much of a standard when there's only one player using it. Hopefully the ISO/ETRTO standards will be announced soon and provide some direction and clarity for the market; that seems to be what a number of manufacturers are waiting on.

I have Mavic cosmic pro ust wheels. I’m running specialized Roubaix tires. They were a ***** to get on and I’m not looking forward to a flat in the field. Before the flames start for not running tubeless, I got these wheels because I got a crazy good deal on them, not because I wanted tubeless. If you try different tires, I’d buy them from a shop and watch while they mount them so you won’t have to buy them if it isn’t a reasonable fit. If you try to mount them yourself, the won’t let you return them.

Well...Mavic was involved with it, so probably not

I found two pairs on ebay for $130 shipped. I also found their sealant there. It seems both items are hard to come by in the USA, atm.

You prefer Mavic sealant over Orange Seal?

As for the sealant...no one advertises carrying it in the USA. Not sure why they would, this thread probably constitutes the entire US market for Mavic tires--and everyone else uses OrangeSeal or Stans.

FYI, there's evidently a SKU out there for a Pro2 version though stocking in sizes other than 25mm seem to be lacking, at an even higher price..

And, FWIW, the reviews on Mavic's own site aren't terribly impressive for the "Pro1" version I imagine.
