Trek Verve 2 tires
 
My wife has the 700x45 tires. Anyone replaced these with a alternate or narrower tire for paved trails? Trek advises to not go below 35.

I',m not an expert But I do have 2019 Trek Dual Sport 2 Trek 2020 FX 3 and 2020 Verve 3 . So for kicks I have alternated Wheels : My FX3 has 700c X35 tires :

This is JMO : When I rotated tires around on those 3 Bikes they all seemed to loose something : My FX 3 came with 32 and when I switched to 35 It made it a different Bike.

IMO at least on Treks : They design a Bike around the Tires: Switching Tire Sizes defeats their design.

A Verve 3 with 700 x 35 Tires : Feels like a Bike that's miss matched : You could go with less aggressive or More Aggressive tread. But to change Size Changes the Bike :

AGAIN IMO Based ON MY OWN EXPERIENCES I think you'd regret it

I too want to put smaller tires on my bike, A comfort bike with 26 x 1.95" Kenda Multi-Surface tires that are as good as multi use budget tires get. But since most of my riding is on either paved surfaces, Or hard packed gravel, I am looking at the 1.75" version of these Schwalbe Delta Cruiser's for a little more efficiency on pavement, While still being a decent all rounder too.

Definitely heed Trek's advice about a minimum of 35mm. I wouldn't go less then 38mm. I think Rick53 has a good point about being careful changing tire sizes. But I also think we have some leeway there. Like replacing my 1.95" with 1.75", and maybe your 45mm with the 38mm Schwalbe's. Keep in mind tire construction alone can make a big difference even with the same size tire. A supple tire with a smooth tread and soft compound will ride and handle much different then a stiffer, treaded tire with a harder compound.

I'm interested to read other peoples experiences replacing wide tires with narrower ones. But for $50 it would be worth a try anyway.

35mm tires
 
I put a cheap 700x35 tire I bought at Dicks for 12 dollars a piece on my 2018 verve 2 at the beginning of the summer. It came with the 700x45 but they were wore out. I do not notice much difference good or bad. It is just a hybrid bike that rides paved trails at a comfortable pace so it is not to critical.

My Allez road bike and my mountain bike get better tires.

Just closing the loop on this thread. Elected to stick with the OEM tires. Thanks for the input.
