All City Def Wish: fixed gear bmx 29er large frame velocity wheels, rare bike.

I recently bought this bike thinking it would be fun.
Can not find much info on the net for such a model so looking for more help.
It is large and fits me pretty well. Very solid and comfortable to ride.
Heavy duty steel frame with one lug at TT to HT.

If you like your fixed gears with fat meats the Def Wish is for you. It's great as an all-arounder or a 700c fixed freestyler.

Can anybody explain the rear dropout drillout's?
I assume without a screw that helps prevent tire slipping, some type of add-on is possible to hold the axle in place?
As pictured, the current setup has the tire very far back so this will probably be an issue that I would like to improve.

change the tires and gearing and do what you like with it. the axle nut holds the wheel in place nothing else should be added.

It very common to have a screw that helps hold the axle in place. Even more important with single speeds although common on nice steel road frames. I just had not seen the hole cutouts before and figure they have a purpose since drillium to save weight on this kind of frame would be silly.

Bmx have become more like road with 29"/700c size and derailleurs now. This looks like a beefy FGFS with some bmx touches.

All City dates from 2009 ish and started out making bikes for niches in the fixie market. This looks like such a one. Bikeforums actually has a “fixed gear freestyle” subforum but I don’t think it’s active.

Yes much heavier than I expected especially with the current wheel/tire setup. The tires are new knobbies so I will replace with some more slick types for practicing some free style ... want to learn to slide stop.

A big part of FS and skid is the gearing.

no they are not meant to hold the wheel. they help align the wheel and adjust chain tension. they are backed off after the axle nuts or bolts are torqued correctly to hold the wheel. relying on those screws is a good way bend them and get stuck in your frame. look for the recent post with a all-city big block where this happened.

Yes good explanation. Alignment and bolt tensions are keys to not impacting the backed off screws

That looks like a great bike, I would like to have one.

Hate the straight fork though.

It will be Vintage in 15-25 years. Right now it’s just old and weird.

As an investment, you can pull the wheels and bars with their grips, wrap them in something protective and box them.

Get some other wheels with brake surfaces and some brakes on there to turn it into a usable cruiser in the meantime.
